We're fed up with Holkham after, last summer, being turfed out of the very edge of the marram grass when trying to find some shelter from a wind that made sitting on the open beach an unpleasant experience.  And as Brigitte has mentioned, it costs more than enough for the privilege of parking in Lady Anne's Drive.

We prefer Warham anyway, not being particularly gregarious in our pursuit of naturism.  Drive along the coast road about the same distance East of Wells as Holkham is to the West, and take one of the farm tracks to the left (towards the sea).  A good one is just opposite a little road that goes inland in the Warham direction, I think.  Anyway, after leaving Wells and the Walsingham railway behind its the first road on the right, and the track in question is more or less opposite.  At the seaward end there's room to park several cars (and its free!).  There's a gate onto the coastal footpath along edge of the saltmarsh.  Just walk West a little way and you'll see paths going out towards the sea. The second one is best - The creeks are crossed by bridges and you can walk for miles and hardly encounter a soul.  Its probably a mile or so to the sea, but when the tide is out miles of beautiful sand is uncovered.  We sometimes take a picnic and spend the day out there.

We didn't know about Warham, it sounds like a good option. Is it a well used naturist beach?

It isn't a naturist beach as such.  There just is seldom anyone around to care whether you're clothed or unclothed.  There will be the occasional bait or cockle digger, scratching around to fill a sack which they then push back to the shore on their bike handlebars, but apart from them and the very occasional dog walker you are unlikely to see anyone - at close quarters anyway.  That's what we love about it.  We're not keen on crowded beaches, naturist or otherwise, and the huge expanse of sand with pools left behind by the receding sea at low water is just perfect on a nice day.

Thanks for the heads up on Warham, we may give that a go if the weather is suitable for the beach.

In case anyone is interested, I have posted a photo in our album of a picnic we had with two friends at Warham last summer.  We took our Kelly kettle and made coffee and tea and had a walk across the saltmarsh.  It was a bit early in the summer for the temperature to be hugely warm, but we managed to sunbathe for an hour before going to Wells for ice-creams!

There are also photos of Stiffkey, the next village to the East on the coast road.  Take the lane towards the campsite, leave the vehicle in the parking area (car-park is a bit too grand a term) and walk straight out towards the sea.  You may well encounter some children crabbing from the first footbridge, but you'll leave them way behind.  At the high tide mark follow the footpath to the left until you come to the little clump of stunted trees and the creek with a few boats on moorings.  At low water you can wade the creek, head West, and come to where our photos were taken.  If you take your kit off you are very unlikely to encounter anyone, and if you did you'd see them a mile away.

we are planning a week all the way down Norfolk and wanted to know if Holkam beach is recommended by the members of this site. Also is there any other places they would recommend for some naked time there. Steve

Further round the coast is Waxham sands camp txt site but form here you can walk south to Horsey beach which is well used by naturists and often don,t see any one till early July Aug. often walk from just north of  Winterton  to Horsey k o with no prob  just avoid R S P B tern area when fenced off
further south is Corton beach park at dip farm pitch put walk down the score turn right  no longer a designated beach but still well used

We walk along horsey quite alot, and not come across a naturist area,
Am I walking the wrong direction, would live to locate more as love this area.

I'm considering checking out a naturist beach with a friend today. Not so sure about Holkham, what about Corton, has anyone been there recently, or what about the others mentioned, what would people say is the all round best one to go to. Thanks

I've given up on beach visits as they appear to be hunting grounds for dubious males who assume you would be interested in their company. As a single male naturist I would like to enjoy the open air without such attention.

Your reply troubled me somewhat as regards the predatory nature of some people who visit naturist beaches. We are very new to naturism and it would bother me greatly if such people would be present. We live in Norfolk and would like to explore our new found freedom. Could you let me know which beach or beaches to avoid such people?
