Let me start by saying that I have never really had an issue with being nude, and from as early as age 7 I remember enjoying stripping off in bed and getting a buzz from feeling the cold sheets on my naked body. This said, as I got older, I didn't seek out the experience for many years until I was on a business trip to Vienna. To cut a long story short, I had missed my flight and had also lost my hotel booking and was transferred to a hotel outside Vienna, thus removing me from socialising with my colleagues in the centre. I was a bit grumpy and at a loss for what to do. I noted that the hotel had a swimming pool, so I decided to have a swim. After a pleasant swim I thought I would try a sauna and headed towards the sauna entrance. At the top of some stairs was a sign indicating "clothed" to the left and "unclothed" to the right. I chose unclothed, expecting to see a sauna cabin with naked people in it. To my surprise and delight (once I had got over my British reserve) I found instead a vast room with a swimming pool, a number of sauna cabins, a steam room, a bar, and an outside area with another pool and sauna cabin. I spent one of the most pleasant evenings of my life there and have never looked back.
Sounds good - what is the name of the hotel? Is it still naturist?
It was some time ago, but I think it was called City Hotel although this does not sound very Austrian
I have spent a few holidays in the Tyrol and this is quite common in a lot of the lager upmarket hotels. A lovely country.
The delights of Europe (Eastern) where it's quite "normal" 🙂
Not that eastern, North Belgium, Nordics, naturally Germany Hotels (inc major chains) often do, but if you mean eastern i.e. not France, Spain, Portugal, Italy etc then I agree (although there are hotels and areas / camp sites etc in all these country that are very nudist friendly).
Yep just prudish Britain that looses out !
We are planning a day at the Vienna Therme Wein in April. The saunas there are naturist. https://www.thermewien.at/
We will be in Vienna for 3 nights at the end of this week. Does anyone know of any saunas closer to the city centre?
That sounds great we will have to have a look. When I was in my teens I used to go to the swimming baths in Wimbledon where I had my first experience of public nudity in the sauna even though it was Men only where I was able to go.
I used to go fairly regularly but no one ever talked to each other at all.
The other year we were in a big hotel in Feurtaventura (textile) which had a mixed sauna much to our surprise and it was interesting watching a group of German girls in there with there towels wrapped round them and their bikinis on despite everyone else being naked.

We're spending next week in Vienna and hoping to make use of the Therme Wien. Can you report on it if you finally made it?
