I had a walk at about 5.45 pm in Sherwood Forest but this was one of the rare occasions when things weren't so pleasant. I had been walking for about half an hour when a female jogger approached me from behind and started to verbally abuse me. I walked off in the opposite direction but her partner was just behind and as he approached he was insulting and threatening. I was walking away from him at the time he shouted at me to come back to him so he could punch my lights out. I advised him that I was a naturist and not doing anything wrong and that he was breaking the law not me, by being threatening and abusive. He continued his tirade until I was out of sight. I decided to cut my walk short and go back to the car. Unfortunately he was at the parking spot and started to threaten and he verbally abused me again. He threatened to inform the police and I told him to go ahead. I told him the police know I walk naked and that they know they have a duty to protect me from people like him. I walked away again until he had gone then went home. So although rare it does happen and it is not very pleasant. I have written up in detail what happened and in my script I have stated that he was threatening and abusive and he caused me alarm and distress. If the police do turn up at my house the first thing I will say is good I want to report a crime and I will give them the script of what happened and what he said to me .If you ever find yourself in a similar situation stay calm do not be abusive or threatening yourself and write up exactly what happened. I did not have my phone with me at the time but if I had I would have called the police myself.

My sympathies for a good walk spoiled by unpleasant people, Gildo. From your past writings I guess you at least have the consolation of knowing this pair are the minority. It would make a refreshing change to see a local paper headline, “Innocent naturist mortified by horrifying verbal assault by textile pair” “The language was terrible, “ Mr G said, “what if there had been children present!”

Yes it would be nice to turn it round on them, problem with people like that if they did make a report to the police there is every chance that they would lie about what I was actually doing. How can anyone think that someone just walking naked can be a pervert or paedophile and be so hateful and vile about it.

Gildo, please dont let this incident put you off walking naked, Ithink you did exactly the right thing. Some people used to speak to gay folk in a similar way but they hve won the right to be there own selves.
I think if more naturists "came out"instead of hiding away we would be more accepted .

This is quite distressing.  I have recently replied to a Facebook comment, regarding someone who enjoyed a naked walk after a 'skinny dip'.  He said he had informed the police of his intentions, to warn them of any potential calls.
I'm my reply, I told him of a friend who regularly walks naked in Sherwood forest and is known by most of the forest inhabitants including the warden and that he liases with the police and has had no problems whatsoever!
I suppose one out of the hundreds you must have met, is inevitable. Still uncalled for though.

Actually in the circumstances as you describe I would make a complaint to the police, Gildo.  The man used actual threats of physical violence.  The only problem is that he did not give his name.  Did you note the car registration?  If you did you have his details.

M
.I was born naked, what's your excuse?

It is inevitable that this sort of thing is going to happen from time to time especially with the numbers of people I meet. I just get over it and learn from the experience. So far no further problems from it, so either he didn't inform the police or they did their job and told him it was not a police matter.

If I had his details or car reg I would have reported him but due to his aggressive behaviour I kept too far away to be able to see. However if the police do call on me I will insist that that they pursue a prosecution for his behaviour.

Not good Gido.
I was out myself 6 till 8.30 yesterday. As I was leaving my car 3 cyclists approached, one saying your a little over dressed aren't you, I had my walking boots and a pair of shorts on. I replied do you think so? Yes he replied there's a guy up there without a stitch on. That'll be me in a minute I replied and they all laughed. 2 men and a woman.
I wondered if it was you.
Where abouts were you when this happened I'll avoid that area myself. Although I tend to stay over near meden vale end of the forest most of the time

No that wasn't me it was a guy from the facebook rambling group, he saw cyclists while he was out about that time. I didn't meet anyone other that the two nasties. I was at the top of the unmade road from  Budby where the path splits into a footpath and a bridal way. I was just crossing that area to go through the new gate that has RSPB welded on the top rail. I just wished there had been a group of us at the time, it would have been interesting to see how he would have reacted then. The second time I saw him I was going to my car at the muddy parking pull in on Swinecoat road near where it joins the Worksop road.

I know where you mean I used to walk that area myself but stopped when they put dogs on leads signs up and my dog loves chasing pheasants so I'm avoiding the common for now.
Let's hope it was a one off and doesn't happen again. I'll keep my ears open see if anything is said round the village if they're local I might get to know who it was.

Sorry to read about your encounter gildo, it's why I always walk with a group, not all of which are naked, but people should be able to walk alone without being harassed. I have never had anyone be aggressive towards me but then my friend Jack is generally with me and he's one huge mother.

What I have had on just a couple of occasions in the past 10 years or so, are detrimental remarks always from women aimed towards me but not said directly to me. Both times the women were in a group with other women. They sort of whispered at a volume they knew I could hear one called me a slut, the other said I was a dirty bitch. In a different context I might own up to being both but not having a quiet naked walk in the countryside with friends. I think they were expecting a reaction but I just ignored the comments, allowing them their couple of seconds of indignation. Bless.

You cannot change what you are willing to tolerate.

A wonderfully beautiful reaction Brooke

As a fellow lad from Notts. I feel sorry you were put in this situation. To carry on in that manner is completely unacceptable. If only there was some proper justice in this country.
As a recent recruit to the ranks of naturists, my eyes have been opened. I didn't realise that people walked naked around Sherwood Forest. As an occassional rambler myself I've never come across anyone walking in the buff. That said, if I did come across a naked rambler in my pre-naturist days I'd be a bit surprised admittedly, but never resort to that type of abuse. Its totally unacceptable.
In my opinion, live and let live. Everyone should be free to do as they please as long as they don't interfere with the rights of others.
Please don't be put off by this incident. One day I might have the courage to do the same.

Maybe some signs in the car park saying naturism is legal, will help and keep prudes from going to the area
