Hi there
Has anyone any recent news about bungalow / campsites in Corsica? We are thinking of going in September but cannot really distinguish between Bagheera and La Chiappa. Any others that others would recommend?
Thanks
we were at Bagheera in May...we loved it!...and before that at Riva Bella. we are motorhomers so getting off site is;nt easy, walking is not bad, the beach is awesome...(not as good as arna) bikes are better..loved the area and will go back if you want more info get in touch!
Hi there,
quite possibly a bit late on the advice. we stayed on a textile campsite on the eastern coast of Corsica cervione. we ventured to riva bella and found the owners to be friendly and very accommodating in May half term. they let us in as day visitors for free as it was low season. the reason we didn't stay was having a daughter we felt it might be too quiet and not many children for her to play with. the beach was fabulous and the facities looked lovely although no swimming pool. they have a large indoor jacuzzi and spa.
we also visted Bagheera they were not so friendly. seemed more upmarket and tidier than rive bella but they wanted to charge us to use the beach of 30 euros. we declined and went to rive bella.
would definitely recommend a car. this part of the coast you were quite far from historic centres. its about hours drive from bastia airport.
hope this some helpful info.
Riva Bella and Bagheera are both on the flat, sandy stretch of coast to the south of Bastia. La Chiappa (close to Porto Vecchio) is in more interesting scenery, with sand beaches between rocky areas, but it is much further south, much closer to the tiny Figari-Corse du Sud airport (flights to Gatwick and Heathrow in Summer).
In any case it would be a pity to be in Corsica and not have a car, as the resorts are obviously on the coast and far from the areas to be visited. Corsica is a very mountainous island (with a maximum height of nearly 9,000 ft), with narrow mountain roads on which it takes ages to get where you want to get - except if you remain in the plain in the East. The upside is tremendous landscapes of mountains in a Mediterraneau setting, (very hard) footpaths, gorgeous views with both mountains and sea. A small car, both short and narrow, is definitely a bonus! There are no naturist resorts on the west coast, which is probably the finest area to visit with "Calanques de Piana" something not be missed.
I know this comes too late for you, but I'm leaving it here for future reference. Camping La Chiappa is fantastic, with a couple of pools and large campgrounds.
You can do a nude walk south along the coast and reach "Tahiti beach" a beautiful white sanded beach with no services. When I was there about half were nude and half with swimsuits, nobody batted an eye. The walk there is beautiful too and a bliss to do sans clothing.
