If you go river dipping it can be useful to check river levels before setting off, the best river level gauge site is:-
https://www.gaugemap.co.uk/
You can search on the map or using the river name.
It does take a little while to understand what the levels mean, but if the level for any site is in the lower half of normal it should be ok.

That is interesting, not so much to find a place to skinny dip, but to see the level of my local river which is currently around .2 metres, somewhat shallow for anything more than skinny paddling I guess. I think it will be useful though as it will give me an indication of when my allotment is likely to flood as it is very close by.

The app doesn't tell you the depth of the river, it tells you the water level at the gauge, you can then interpret that to relate to your local swimming spot.

I suppose that is a technicality, I have noted with respect to my river that the guage level increases the further down the river you get.
