Just as Baz says - Cicar are our 'go-to' car hire company in all of the Canary Islands. They were highlighted a few weeks ago in a Which?/Daily Telegraph survey as the top car hire company in Europe for customer service, no nonsense contracts and inclusive insurance.

If you are booking with CiCar use the domain name Cabrera Medina. it`s the parent company of CiCar but for some reason id always cheaper..Same terms, same fleet etc..

  Plus car are very good and also have a look at Autoreisen. Have used them many times and no complaints.

I don't hire and rely on buses and transfers but a car is probably essential if staying in La Oliva.
The only recommendation I have ALWAYS heard is "don't touch Goldcar."

Too true with that one John, we got ripped off the first time we went there. Read the reviews. When we booked with  Goldcar they took us by bus to their garage, charged us for extra insurance was supposed to be full comp, then overcharged us for fuel. KEEP AWAY

I have to admit, I'd heard bad things about Goldcar in Lanzarote so I avoid them like the plague.
What is the best naturist beach? I've been looking at El Cotillo Lagoons, Jandia and the beach just south of Corralejo, but I'm struggling to find where to go to especially Corralejo. I keep finding references to the RIU hotels (ie avoid them) but no-one is saying it's best to head north or south?

As someone mentioned Betancuria is worth a visit.  I think what people meen when they say keep away from the big RIU hotels, is that that area of the beach near to these hotels is not naturist.
Basically as far as beaches for naturism in the north, and I am by far an expert, It is the dunes outside Corralejo, or the lagoons  at El Cotillo,  our favourite are the lagoons, but the ones further out of town. But you will have a car, so explore both.

In the past we've hired cars on Lanzarote so aren't too fazed by long drives to seek out nice quiet beaches as we tend to shy away from the touristy parts and we like to soak up wherever we are visiting. What's the point of going somewhere new and only sticking to one part?

We've just returned from Fuerteventura last night, and I have to admit initially, we didn't 'get' the island, that said, we initially were comparing it to Lanzarote, of which we know really well. Day 1 we took a drive around the north of the island, including Corralejo beach, El Cottilo lagoons and La Olivia. The island struck us as a bit of a shambles to tell you the truth with no defined areas of interest. Day 2 saw us take a longer than anticipated drive to Jandia (around 2.5 hours after being stuck in a convoy behind a HGV for most of the way) and this is my biggest criticism of the island, for the size of it they really need to invest in a main road, north to south. Jandia although absolutely stunning was far too time consuming to get to from our base in La Capellania just south of Corralejo. However! Day 3 saw us having a bit of an epiphany, we realised that on Corralejo beach we had parked too far south past the RIU hotels and a morning walk from the old Grand Hotel Natura site onto the north end of the beach revealed  our error. However it was our revisit to El Cotillo lagoons that we instantly fell in love with. On day 1 we had parked reasonable close to the town and although there were naturists on the beach, on Day 3 we had continued along the road towards the lighthouse and found a beautiful lagoon next to a snack bar, whilst initially it looked quite textile, more and more naturists turned up with the majority of us setting up at the furthest end from the snack bar, the lagoon was calm and beautiful. Both naturists and textiles mixed well, we didn't see any negative reactions and we thoroughly enjoyed our time here, so much so that we visited El Cottilo every day.
Our initial confusion of the island was due to the fact that Fuerteventura isn't geared towards tourism the way the other Canaries seem to be, this turned out to be what we felt was it's biggest charm. The only thing that I personally felt brings it down is that there was obviously a big push to develop the island before the 2008 housing crisis, and the crisis bankrupted quite a few of the developers, leaving a lot, and I mean A LOT, of half finished properties dotted about the island.
We feel that we need to explore the island a bit more and are now thinking about hiring a camper van and doing a 10 day tour around the island. There are loads of wind surfers/kite surfers/surfers on the island and loads of places to park up for the night, so who knows we might find some off grid gems on our next visit.
Fuerteventura is definitely not like the other Canaries and as I mentioned before, this definitely works in its favour, even Corralejo which is 'the most British town' isn't overrun by idiots falling over drunk, at least not that we saw, although it does have the commercial element to it, a step off the main street reveals some absolutely great little tapas bars etc. and there is a lovely mix of nationalities, from French, Italian, German, Dutch and of course Brits.
