It seems that Calshot beach in Hampshire is not allowing naked bathing with the erection of this sign.

Thats really sad news Richard.

I don't suppose you were able to talk to anyone there about it were you?

Just that it seems to me that, if that part of the beach is private, I'm assuming for the people that own the beach huts, then the naturist section will be completely unused?

Seems such a waste, just so a few beach hut owners don't see a few people walk past their huts.

Unless theres more to it? Am I correct in thinking the large house(s) behind the wooded section of the nudists section actually own that part of the beach?

It is part of the Cadland Estate. I assume the beach huts are leased from them as well.

Actually I found this out on the website “in the buff” and the photo on the internet, so I haven't been there myself, but the story behind it goes the owner died and the daughter has taken over running the Cadland Estate which own the land behind right down to the high water line.
Also (again not seen myself) there are two CCTV cameras covering the beach, this must be by the beach huts as I can't see them running power up to the nudist part near Lepe.
I contacted BN by email :-
Hi Calshot Beach in Hampshire have put up a new sign to say no nudism/no
nudist bathing, now this beach is a private owned by the Cadland Estate,
the story goes the owner died and now the daughter is running the estate
and being a bit of a prude, how can they enforce this or can they call
the police to get us removed. Surely if it is on private ground it is a
civil matter and not against the law so they will have to bring a civil
prosecution.
The reply was :-
Under The Equality Act 2010 it became unlawful to discriminate between
groups.
Kind regards
Legal Team
BRITISH NATURISM

which is not very helpful to say the least, to me I just won't bother to go there as it is not worth the hassle.

As far as I know most are privately owned, but they do have two to rent out.

Thanks Richard.

Not the response I was hoping you would get from BN, but, thank you for trying.

An end of an era for me! Such a shame.

So presumably you could do as you like below the high water line?

That's where this site comes into its own i.e. members passing on useful information such the threads below about Calshot beach. It has saved me a big disappointment as it was one of the beaches on my list to visit this year.

Fair point, I didn’t express myself correctly. Yes the huts are privately owned what I was getting at is the land they are ob won’t be owned freehold by the hut owner it will be leased/licensed from the land owner. In fact one post I found for a hut sold a while ago seemed to say that such fees were paid to the Forestry Commission not Cadland.
