We’re Essex based and we have found quite a few walks near you.  Essex has loads of footpaths, and you can find them marked up on the Ordnance Survey maps.  When we find a possible walk, we check the walk out on Google Earth, and then perhaps do a clothed walk just to make sure your not walking through someone’s garden.

We’ve walked Hatfield Forest, the old Dunmow to Braintree railway line (only bits of it in the rural areas) and a cross country walk called Three Forest Way that runs from Hatfield Park to Hatfield Broad Oak, and it continues right through to the Rodings, but there are roads to cross.

Of course you have to chose your times and days. We find summer weekends are a big NO NO, and some dog walkers can be bit of a pain, but most walks have their quiet times especially very early summer mornings at 5am.
You’ve just got to check these walks out for yourself.  We quite often do a clothed walk to check the area out, and find it so quiet we’ve stripped off and walked back.
