As I was out on my daily morning walk on a beach in Spain I was stopped by the life guard that had just come on duty (10am) and told that I could not be nude on that section of beach and needed to go to the far end of the beach, which I know to me a naturist section and is where I spent a lot of time.
My issue is that it was 10 am, there was the life guard and myself on the beach, I couldn't see anyone else for as far as the eye could see in both directions, more than a mile either way.
I nodded politely and pretended I didn't understand him but carried on walking in the direction he indicated, which is where I was going anyway.

Far from it. I understand nudity in public is perfectly legal in Spain, apart from specific areas.
See my post re El Templo Del Sol, which we visited in July, where extensive nude hiking is tolerated. As I discovered, this is even true on a road that is featured on Google Maps Streetview, where I was nude except for footwear, and the occupants of a slowly passing police car ignored me.

As a resident in Spain that lifeguard was going beyond his remit. It is not illegal to be naked on any Spanish beach unless it is specifically forbidden. Were there any notices forbidding nudity around ?

This reminds me of the numerous stories which I have seen of people being cautioned for being naked between the tso Tui hotels on the naturist Grandes Playas of Corralejo, Fuerteventura.
It is always some sort of official who intercepts the nudes and I have never heard of any individual being unsettles by the presence of transient nakedness.

The question is where?
Some towns have bylaws now in place.
Otherwise it's just an overzealous life guard.
Place was Canet der Mar
No signs in place
Away from main town beach too
Aha catalunya!
There are some ordinances (by-laws) near there but I'm pretty sure not canet De mar.
So probably an overzealous lifeguard.
When they first came in I looked at them with disdain, however I feel it's more a case of trying to keeping the community/barri together rather than an anti naturist thing.

I sometimes wish that the lifeguards on my beach would be a little more zealous. There are notices everywhere announcing that it is a naturist beach and that bathing costumes are not allowed, but they are blatantly ignored.

Never heard of anything so absurd. You carry on and ignore them.
