There is Blacks Beach in San Diego California.  Getting there can be a challenge for some as the most direct way is s short hike down a cliff, but it is worth it.

I think you are missing the point......

The issue is the immense climb back!

I look forward to checking it out someday. Here in the Portland, OR area, there's Rooster Rock State Park on the Columbia River, and Collins Beach on Sauvie Island on the Willamette. I haven't been to either yet.

This is true but I still stand by the rest of my comment that it's worth it, besides, its good exercise.

I have been.  I think the cliff climb does keep many people who aren't dedicated out.

Once with friends who lived in San Diego, so had often done this, we hiked along the water's edge from La Jolla but nobody had checked tide tables and we very nearly got cut off on the way back, walking quite a bit in the water (with some difficulty because of the waves) rather than scrambling on rather dangerous rocks.
