What photo storage / sharing sites do other members use?
I've used Flickr since 2006 and since then have uploaded about 1,400 photos, of which a handful are naturist holiday pics. I'm now being prompted to upgrade to Pro account or lose my oldest four hundred photos , which isn't a problem short-term as I still have local copies.
However, there must be many alternative sites out there, particularly with respect to some of my photos which I don't intend to make public. I've recently scanned hundreds of old prints and slides, some dating back to late 19th century, so just need secure online storage or maybe have the ability to share with family and friends.
Bit of a faff but I don't think they've found a way of preventing you from having two accounts, you just need to use two different email addresses. Then it's a matter of logging in and out between accounts, or some people use two different browsers (Chrome, Firefox, etc) to stay logged in to both at the same time.
I agree the privacy settings are great.

Indeed that is what I have done, I have two seperate accounts.
If you do find a different one, don't forget that now under GDPR (right of portability) you can instruct Flickr to move all your data to the new provider.

I didn't realise that. Thanks 🙂
I have occasionally browsed photos on ipernity. There are at least a few naturist images but not sure of their policy on nudity. Â I believe it is French operated so I suspect that nudity is fine. Â
if it is just for storage I use google photos.
loads of room, you can invite people to view them, but I haven't worked out how to select what's visible to those people and what isn't, so not got round to that nit yet
Depending on your usage, you might find Plex ( https://www.plex.tv/en-gb/) a good option. I'm still building photo albums in my collection on Plex, but very pleased with it so far. It's a better option if you want to limit viewers to specific people or groups.
Plex is a bit different from other services – rather than providing the hosting for you, it facilitates hosting your own media on your own equipment.
Pros:
- Great privacy (because you host and manage your own media)
- You don't need to upload anything because the sharing happens from your own computer
- The only limitation on space is how much you have on your own computer(s)
- Has a free option (but there are some benefits to subscription)
- Can also host all your movies, music etc. in addition to photos
- Has client apps on all platforms (desktop, mobile, 'smart' TV)
Cons:
- Some technical ability helps - I suspect a novice might be confused (but you can try for free)
- Because you provide the hosting on your own equipment, it's only available when that computer is on and connected to the internet
- Sharing speed is dependent on the upload speed of your internet connection - if you have a bad service, it won't work well
- Because the media is not uploaded, you really need to back it up some other way (but you probably should do that anyway)
Anyone who wants to view your album would also need a (free) Plex account and you would have to explicitly authorise what they can view. I view that as a plus because I'm only intending to share with close family and friends, but that isn't true for everyone.
I run a little headless computer (Mac Mini) in a cupboard for this purpose. It consumes very little power, especially when not in use, so it runs all the time. Our family is widely distributed around the world, so this has been a nice way to share without advertiser snooping.
