My all boys school had an open air swimming pool which was used in the summer term. During the 1950s until about 1960 when nylon swimming trunks were more readily available we had to swim naked because the old wollen trunks caused fibres to block up the simple filter system. So from the age of 8 I grew up with naked swimming being an entirely normal thing. It stood me in good stead because by the time my wife and I encountered our first naturist beaches in Denmark and Les Landes, France in 1978 it seemed there was nothing more natural than being naked on the beach and in the sea. 42 years on and the rest is history.
It was no restriction to me as I needed to complete my swim early in order to get to work on time.

Were swimming instructors / coaches nude as well? If there were open competitions- for example, against a rival school- would those swims also be completed nude?
Supervising teacher was always dressed in 1950s style sports kit. There were no external competitions.
