I have an old video tape that I have not been able to play for years. We do not have the camera or a tape player - it’s old tech.
Many companies offer a tape conversion service,  but the tape contains nudity ( just me and my gorgeous wife ) and I do want to shock or offend anybody who is uncomfortable with naked bodies.
I live near Watford and would be happy to travel. The tape runs for about 20 or 30 minutes (it’s so long ago I can’t remember exactly).

I can send you a photo of the two film stars if it would encourage you to help.

I would be happy to pay for your time and any expenses.

Sam

I can’t answer the question - it was a borrowed video camera - I have uploaded a pic of the actual cassette if this is any help

@samg

Looks like a standard VHS tape to me - I'll have a look at the kit I've got available unless there anybody else a bit closer.
You would have to post or courier the tape to me as I'm in Wales.

Interesting that you can see the image of the tape. I cannot see any images from anyone else on the  site - I am trying another image of us on Holkam beach in the 1990’s - can anybody see it ?

@samG   Not VHS - I think it's an 8mm digital tape known as Hi8 and used by Sony cameras (possibly others).  There may have been Hi8 -> VHS adapters to allow it to be played in a VHS machine.  Mostly long gone, but you never know on Ebay lol.

I see you are a photographer - my wife had a session with a professional in the 1990’s - an example is attached.

Thanks for the suggestion, but we are nervous about having it done by a commercial organisation - my wife had a student summer job in a photo processing lab the  days before digital cameras. Any nude or sexy photos were duplicated and collected by some members of staff for their own amusement.
We would need to be completely sure the tape would not be posted on a website etc. That’s why I thought a fellow naturist would be a safer bet.

If you have a desktop PC and can borrow a camera to play the tapes you can most likely plug it straight in the PC and convert using one of the many versions of software that are available which would keep your privacy.
Failing that you could buy a secondhand one on ebay.
Either option DIY or through a pro service will be cost but the pro conversion service will probably be the more expensive of the two.

i would have thought that you would need some interface card to actually get the video onto your pc
it really depends on what format the original tape is , if its analogue then you would need some analogue capture  card, if its digital, then it would depend on what digital format

quick google and its hi8, which needs a capture device
so to get the video onto your pc, you would need a hi8 camera and a capture card

The capture device is the graphics/video card on the PC.

Depending on type it will have a separate graphics card or built in video card this is where the monitor plugs in with various other AV connections

You can plug an old VCR into a pc and convert videos to digital.
You just need the appropriate leads RCA mostly or RCA to whatever goes into your device.
Or possibly RCA to mini DV which is like a small phono plug

Many companies trying to sell unnecessary equipment to people.

I have converted many camcorder videos as well as old wedding videos, party videos and audio tapes just by connecting the appliance direction into my pc.

Also it's the software used that converts the analogue video to digital video or digital tape to digital video format.
