Martinm - isn't the point of true art nude that the photos are meant to be viewed purely as pieces of art?? I don't personally think my shot (earlier in the thread) is a cliche and I certainly wasn't young at the time. 🙂

Yes I agree. Art nudes particularly when taken in black and white are a far cry from naturist photos.

I think there is a clearly defined line between art nude and naturist and this is something I am currently working through with my photography.

I am planning shoots with a naturist theme (although being winter it might now have to wait until next year) and also art nude either on location or in a studio.

Art nude, I think, it the creation of something artistic involving a nude model (male or female) but I also think it has to say something; there has to be a theme to it. Photographing naked people for the sake of it is not art.

Naturist images, however, I think should represent the theme naturism in all its guises. And that should involve male, female and couples and in various naturist settings too. I don't think there is anything wrong with trying to make it artistic either.

Just my opinion anyway.

My feelings are that, like so many things in life, there are not only some obvious categories but also a whole spectrum of things in between.

In this instance it goes from unartistic naturist photos, through artistic naturist photos to art nude (but not naturist).  Exactly where each type starts and finishes is probably a personal opinion that we would not all agree on, but that's art!

I admire your aim to increase your portfolio Dave, I just hope you can find the models, and make sure you get your model release form clear.

Superb photography. I'm sure many will appreciate any additional entries to this topic. Well done for trying to get people interested.
