I must try this walk. Is the path clear to see? I very often camp at Bigin so not to far from this walk.

Clear enough, the path mainly stays in the bottom of the dales, just one section that rises about half a mile or so up the ridge to avoid the nature reserve but soon descends back down again. The instructions on the website I linked to are quite good.

Yesterday I had my first nude walk of the year in Derbyshire. Wasn't too long, I'd already done a clothed 10 miles around Big Moor with my partner and while she rested back at the car I took a quick end of the day stroll down from Shillito Wood. I undressed once out of view of the car park, and then walked along path that runs north through Ramsley Moor, below Hewett's Bank to the track at Car Road. Not much more than a couple of miles there and back, but very quiet, very sheltered, saw nobody, pretty good going for that part the Peak District on the first weekend after the last stage Lockdown relaxations. Enjoyable!

Wow, 7 naked miles down Long Dale today, there and back to the end of Gratton Dale actually, and we saw absolutely nobody. At 13C and full sunshine, it bit chilly to begin with because of a slight breeze, but once into the shelter of the dales it felt like the middle of summer, and for the second half no breeze at all, just perfect. Some lovely wildlife again, raven, redstart, tiger beetles. I really hesitate to post too much about it, my partner compared it to being in the Garden of Eden, just us and nature. Stupendous.

That sounds like heaven. 

There are a lot of Naturist Ramblers groups on fb if anyone is looking to walk in a group. I run the Yorkshire group but there’s a Peak District and a Midlands group plus other areas.

Did another walk around Ramsley Moor today, starting at the pull-in at the bottom of Fox Lane and the footpath that skirts around the bottom of Smeekley Wood, then up to the moor. 4 miles, just me and my partner again. It really feels like a safe place to be.

Later we drove up to Shillito Wood to watch the bird tables a wee while, and as my partner decided to take a nap I had another walk down onto Ramsley, beginning from the top this time. Inspired by conversation elsewhere here on Naturist Corner and the fact we'd done mile after uninterrupted mile around the place, I decided to stash my clothes and set off sans everything but footwear. Only a short walk though, 10 minutes down the track 10 minutes back. It is differently invigorating, I find it difficult to describe, or maybe it's just bound to be more comfortable not carrying a bag on my back. Then wouldn't you know it, a few hundred yards short of my clothes a young woman jogger passes me by from behind, she perhaps startling me more than the other way around because I didn't hear her coming until she was right upon me, rather making me jump. She just carried on as normal, hopefully as unbothered as she seemed. So, not quite the deserted idyll it sometimes feels like, but still reasons to be confident it's a great spot for a naturist walker.

I did this today, although clothed as it was chilly and grey (and then wet later on). Saw 3 people in that part of the walk. If the weather turns nice before the week is out I'll visit it again.

I have to say it's a beautiful pair of dales. Kites, Ravens, and more Common Spotted Orchids thank you can shake a stick at. 🙂

Sadly I never did get around to doing it again before the week was out, so not done it naked, but still a very enjoyable walk.  Not sure where the best parking spot is though, but maybe that's why it is quiet.

Here's a pic of the patch of Common Spotted Orchids I spotted while there.  Not rare, but lovely still.

Been a good year generally for orchids, loads in my part of Derbyshire.

Parking for which walk?

Another 5 miles exploring Ramsley Moor yesterday. The car park at Shillito was practically full so I was a bit apprehensive at first, I needn't have been though, as once across the road and onto the moor it became fairly quiet. I'm really not sure where all those people go. 

Took me a little while to undress this time. I think I've become too accustomed to the moral back-up of having the signs up at Sherwood and have lost a bit of my free range confidence. Of course, the urge to go strip off won out in the end, 16C and autumn sunshine good enough for me. 

Only a few people passed, 5 or 6 at a guess, no problems, either sharing greetings or pretending I wasn't there (which is fine). A couple of young female dogwalkers gave me a friendly hello before I had chance to say it first, and having given them plenty of room on the path seemed positively fine with me being there. Nice to know young people still apparently have a concept of what naturism is, given the not unduly heavy media attention on how some spaces can be difficult for women to be in. 

The valley itself is so lovely and sheltered, simply ideal for a quiet, secluded walk. Climbing back up I did get dressed well before the car park, more due to the wind than any other concern.

As the wind whistled through the oak trees and shook the leaves were were rained upon by thousands of these little donut-shaped things, which are the eggs of the silk button spangly gall wasp, apparently they fall off at this time of year and hatch out from the ground level next spring. We hadn't really noticed them before, but there seemed millions of them along the path these year.

That's not far from me. Only been up a couple of times  - clothed so far. 

Well I have actually managed to do an eight mile walk and not take my clothes off. I stopped two nights at Biggin, walked Biggin Dale, Wolfcoat, Beresford and Mill dales, all with out removing any clothing. I think it must be one of only 3 or 4 times I've managed this since having the dog nearly eight years ago.  Even the dog kept looking at me in a strange way, perhaps wondering why I remained clothed. Think the wind and rain played a major part.

Was wearing my hiking kilt though so not conventionally dressed and still got a fair amount of fresh air and some funny looks, as ever. Love this part of the Peak District.

Those are all nice dales, just quite popular ones I'd hesitate to try naked in the best or worst of weather. The Long Dale walk I've described before is just 3 or 4 miles north of Biggin Dale, very doable naked. The higher and the drier the dale the quieter too generally.

I stayed on the ourskirts of Biggin earlier in the year.  A lovely area, and although well populated it's the same dale that ends up as Dove Dale but with many many fewer people.  The rolling scenery north of Hartington was pretty quiet.

I did walk Long Dale (much of it naked).  It wasn't so obvious where to park, so involved a bit of road walking to get started.  That's probably one reason it's so quiet once you get into it though.

Yes, the car park in Friden is the best access, it's a half mile north along the road to get the footpath, quite a well hidden entrance to the dale.

Winter homework will be to look for more potential routes in Derbyshire, although I doubt I'll find any with such long stretch without roads or tourist hot spots as that one and Ramsley Moor, unless it's the much bleaker and generally barren and uninteresting grouse moors up on the High Peak.
