We've bought a tent and accessories and we're going on a mini tour this summer. We'll be away for almost five weeks, going to:

Telford Naturist Club

Acorn's Retreat

Manor Farm

Brighton (textile)

Rosebay.

Everybody I've spoken to at the clubs and campsites have been lovely and friendly and helpful.

Quite excited about the whole summer - I just hope the weather cooperates.

If you don't mind me asking, how much did it all cost?  I've never been into camping but it seems that's the only way to get into naturist places in the UK so I might have to dip my toe into it, if it's not too expensive.

@leefos

The most expensive places are around £240 for a week, the cheapest about half that.

Our five weeks camping is working out cheaper than a week in a hotel.

Thanks.  How much did you spend on the tent and accessories?  I'd need to buy everything so would have to add that to the starting costs.

I forgot about that because we bought it all last spring before finding out that the all the campsites had closed their toilet and shower blocks.

Altogether we spent about £500, £300 of which was for a good quality tent. You can buy a much cheaper tent if you know you're not going to be camping in the rain. Go Outdoors is a good shop if you're researching equipment, and the staff will make a list for you.

If you're thinking of wild camping you might want a portaloo and a solar shower, which will cost a bit extra.

My better half roughs it when we go camping. She takes the bare minimum. An inflatable tent. An inflatable bed, sofa, armchair, pouffe cushion, lighting, refrigerator, two ovens and a few other things.

We bought a big tent, 3 bedroom, for £25 on eBay. Needed a ground sheet, and we removed the inner dividers so it became one big bedroom.

Dismantled an old futon base so it would fit in the car (fiat doblo), inflatable double mattress from Go Outdoors, racking system for the cooker (and the cooker itself) for less than £15 on eBay.

The most expensive thing was a metal firepit....

Then a fortnight at Manor Farm and not used it since.

We got into it the comfortable way, buying a second hand trailer tent with a fixed double bed second hand but hardly used, together with a caravan awning which zipped onto the front and a camping kitchen which travelled on the towbar. It set us back about 1K in 1986 and we reckoned that it would pay for itself in two years of holidays.
It was superb for holidays to the South of France as the German chassis was rated at 106 mph.

It lasted until 2006. A tyre blowout on the autoroute outside Bordeaux when we were debating whether to do some extensive maintenance or buy an Eriba decided us to write it off, especially when it would take a fortnight to get the replacement tyre and the garage proprietor showed me that it needed new wheel bearings. I suspect that the young family man who worked there and was looking it over had it.
