Although i dont like the word "tolerated" and that they missed the opportunity to state that naturism is legal, it does clarify the position. I would suggest that an approach is made to the Forestry Commission to document their position in a similar manner (if they have not already done so). In Scotland, it is very different. We have the right to responsible access and this codified in the Scottish Outdoor Access code. When I approached Forestry Commission Scotland, their approach was no problem as long as it is legal and does not contravene the SOAC.

Mmm? Not sure but at least it outlines that we are allowed to be naked in this area. The maps not all that clear though, I know the area but others may have trouble understanding it.

Cant see many people reading it if placed on the gates.

Sorry but I don't read it like that. I see it as the RSPB informing the wider public that they may encounter naturists walking in the area in a way that doesn't actually encourage it but doesn't condem it either. It also informs that we have a legal right to public rights of way which many people will be unaware of.

Asking us not to use the main Forest area is nothing new as this has been understood by most for some time, although not written.

I will carry on walking where I always have which doesn't include the busier touristy part and if this policy means more of those I meet are more aware they may encounter naturists who are not breaking any laws then fair play.

I know what you're saying regarding our rights, but I'm not sure the policy changes too much for me. Seems like the area to the west that's managed by Forestry England isn't affected, so it's perhaps business as usual in those areas, otherwise most stick to the heath anyway. 

I'm gonna guess most of us will feel a bit more confident out on the heath now.

Maybe it's not exactly what you wanted to see, still, it's pretty obvious there would no be official recognition of our freedoms on the heath without the relationships you've built there. For that we should be very grateful, surely makes Sherwood unique as an inland location?

Just returned from a two hour walk. The signs are up. At least I saw two of them, one on Swinecoat Road and one at Budby village gate.

I'm going to take them as a positive. They inform others that naturist frequent the area, they say more or less if you dont want to see naturists walk somewhere else..

They also imply that the RSPB is okay with it.

I know of no other organisation like the RSPB that have taken this tact. 

On a serious note and how wrong was I? As I headed back towards Swinecoat Road I saw a silhouette in the coppice near the large lone pine. Didnt take much notice but given this was where I saw the guy with dogs the other day I was a little apprehensive. As I got closer and there was now nothing blocking my view the silhouette had moved forward out of the shade of the trees and he was naked. I was about to put up my hand to wave when I thought better of it. Even closer now and it looked like this guy was masterbaiting or certainly playing with himself. He then turned sideways on so I could clearly see that he was masterbaiting. I turned direction away from him and as I did so I saw the two dogs, dalmatian and a large white mastive type.

So if you see a bald headed guy with glasses and a Dalmatian and large white dog still take care because he is a pervert. And should it be someone on here, shame on you and this behaviour is beyond indecent.

A review of the area on google maps refers to naturism and warns 'beware of the big man.'  I've got mixed feeling on areas being designated like this.  In one way it is encouraging but on the other hand it implies that nudity is forbidden in other places and acts as a draw to undesirable types.

Okay so the pervert isn't bald but he has really white hair, caught site of him today just after I'd been discussing him with a naturist I met today.

On the basis of the notice, I’d say the RSPB is having a pretty good go at dealing with a situation it’s found itself in. On the one side, naturists (us, I’m with you in spirit if not in body) doing something perfectly legal and doing it peaceably. On the other side, based on recent posts, a protest element who won’t accept the legal position and some elements who’ve exploited the acceptance of naturism for their own ends. 

That said, the poster does give the appearance of designating different areas for where naturism is permitted and where it’s not, irrespective of the legal niceties. 

It seems the best situation was before it reached this stage, with naturism taking place, staying pretty much below the radar (has it ever reached the pages/airwaves of the local media?) and causing little bother. It’s something we do well in Britain - don’t talk about it and then we don’t have to do anything about it!
