Not sure why a temporary 200 metre walk is a big deal.

If we're serious about naturism being seen to be normal by the general population then visibility is probably a good thing....and it may deter the minority  of sexually active males that we all complain about.

I suppose there is two ways of looking at this do we all want to hide away from the public as it is wrong to be naked, or we show the public this is what we do......get use to it cos I ain't changing.

If you don't want to be seen, don't go to Brighton Beach. If you don't mind being seen, then fine. My worry would be the exhibitionists we are blighted by taking the opportunity of a greater audience to push their boundaries and damage the image of naturism further, potentially leading to the beach being closed altogether.

Still, I'm sure Brighton council knows what it's doing ....

If the "exhibitionists" are doing something illegal it's up to the police to get out there and do what they're paid to do.

Having just visited Brighton (Black Rock / Kemptown) I was disappointed and concerned at the utter destruction Brighton Council has created in trying to extend the concrete board walk from the Mariner to Dukes Mound. They have fenced off the naturist beach meaning that access can only be gained by walking 200m either way to walk around the excavations. The result of all of this will mean that the boardwalk will be along the landward edge of the naturist beach with sun-bathers in full view of passersby (and the passengers on the Volks Railway). Dukes Mound is also having most of its undergrowth cut down. This will leave an uninterrupted view of the naturist beach and the folks there on from the Kemp Town Regency Terraces, and the main road incl. passengers on numerous double decker buses. It is a moot point that all of this destruction and (aka supposed) development is taking place at the height of summer when the beaches are packed rather than during the winter when no-one is on the beaches at all.

The issues that I was raising included the report that Brighton Naturist Beach is being wrecked by Brighton Council by digging huge trenches making access difficult, concreting over much of the beach between the Marina and Dukes Mound, destroying the 'Green Wall' of climbing plants at Dukes Mound, and cutting down most of the shrubs along Dukes Mound. All of this is reducing the privacy of the beach, making access difficult, and basically reducing the whole site to a construction site even worse that the scrap metal site where the Black Rock Lido used to be - now occupied by travellers and their detritus.

Apparently the locals are furious that all of this is being done without consultation. The works would have been better done in the winter, not high summer when people actually want to use the beaches.

Meanwhile the West Pier has almost gone, the Madeira Arches are falling down, the Madeira lift is broken, the Royal Pavilion now has glass fibre domes and minarets, etc. So whilst bankrupt with no money for restoring the Madeira Arches Brighton Council is wasting money making dubious 'improvements' to the naturist beach and surrounds.

It should be noted that the works are constantly moving so access will vary day-to-day. On each visit over next 6 weeks you may find different access points. It's just construction, though last time I was there noted it was a little noisy with 'diggers' but not horrific.

I saw this work when I was down there. Yes the access area is awkward but the beach naturist area seemed intact. 
I didn’t notice any problems with the area behind the naturist section.

what would be brilliant is if they could somehow add thousand of tons of sand into the built up area which provides the screening as those pebbles are so so hard

They have an SSI notice along by the Marina boundary for that part of the beach. It describes the vegetation and wildlife living on the beach there. However the site and vegetation has now all but gone because the pebbles have been excavated as the donor site for the rear of the naturist section. Quite what thy are trying to achieve with all of this is a moot point.

Meanwhile they have stopped cutting down Dukes Mound. Although they have cut down what they call the Green Wall of climbing vegetation alongside the Dukes Mound incline. Apparently this was done in 'error' by unauthorised / unsupervised contractors.

I went to Brighton Beach Naturist area today, for my first time. I was a bit nervous going there with the construction and after passing a mini golf and restaurant which i thought was strange to have over a naturist beach.  lucky for the patrons I was hesitant about going to that part of the beach even though google maps location dot showed i was in the right spot. I went a bit further having read this forum post and was looking for the “destroyed” area 😆. The area is still under construction 🚧 on the roadway behind the beach 🏖 how ever the pathway to the “leaving Naturist area” sign was cleared and easy to pass thru (just tried to upload pic but it was to large).  So after reading the sign I guess I was the lucky one for not being to certain that, that was the spot.  Their is a mound of pebbles blocking some of the roadside traffic view and you can go into the pit of it but i wanted to see the waterline and so i went further towards the water.  The pebbles make it difficult to walk on especially with bare feet 🦶(recommend water shoes) and returning back from the water is a bit of a climb on pebbles and shells 🐚 which was difficult.  Not many people even though it was a sunny but windy day though late in the season.  I am glad I went. I will return on a busy day to see what that is like.

@addi That sort of pebble beach is endemic along that part of the channel coast - even the vast Camber Sands have such a pebbly bit up against the dunes (or at least they did when I was last there).

Busy Sat/Sun in June-August you can expect between 300 and 1000 people there.

I use the nude beach in Brighton down by the port, tends to be called Shoreham but's it's nearer Portslade/Southwick.

Always people around but not overlooked and friendly
