Hello all,

I have managed to pick up a cheap holiday in Gran Canaria in April (have been to Fuerteventura twice), and I was wondering if anyone could recommend any good beaches. I will be staying at Las Palmas, but will have a car so can travel.

Many thanks

Nick

Yes Maspalomas naturist beach and dunes are famous. Just drive down the GC1 motorway and you will be there in about an hour. Best to park as close as you can to the lighthouse (Faro de Maspalomas) then head to the beach and walk for 10 minutes along past the charca (oasis) to the naturist section which is well signposted when on the beach, or just look for the naked people lol. Or some people access the textile beach in Playa del Ingles and walk the long way round from the other direction, or you can even walk across the dunes (following the red topped posts) from the Riu Palace hotel at the bottom of Avenida de Tirajana, this also takes some time.

There are secluded beaches all around the island but Las Palmas and beaches on the north of the island are usually a few degrees cooler/cloudier than the tourist sun traps of the south.

Enjoy your holiday - I will be there again in May to top up my all over tan.  😎

I have just looked again at the holiday details, and it seems I am staying on the south coast near Playa Taurita.

Playa del Ingles is to the north-east of the dunes - hopefully THIS LINK will open a Google map - Maspalomas is on the left - Playa del ingles on the right. you can see the vast expanse of dunes at the bottom. The naturist beach sextion on the south coastline roughly in the middle and a bit to the left and extends a long way back into the dunes.

That will be near Puerto Rico at the other end of the motorway so will be less of a journey to Maspalomas for you. The beach won't be as quiet as ones on Fuerte though.

Hi everyone,we just got back from Maspalomas and it was lovley. We booked a week in the Capri Bungalows. It was cheap and chearful, but it suited our needs, clean and quiet and a free bus to the beach thrown in every day, cant be Bad.Maspalomas is the quieter part of the area.If you like lots of tourists and 'English Bars',then head for playa del Ingles, more Union Jack shorts than you could hope for!
As for the dunes, its an amazing place.Just stroll along the beach till you see the signs then strip off.You can walk for miles in the dunes and they are quite spectacular.Watch the sun though, it can be quite fierce in the afternoons.
Enjoy your stay.

Feel free to get in touch

Hi all,
The locals use "Playa Las Carpenteras" more than Maspolomas as it's totally sheltered from the usual wind (we got sand-blasted at Maspolomas once). It's a nice sheltered cove with steep cliffs all around. No facilities so take all your provisions with you (especially water). There is a large rough car park if you are renting transport or a bus stop nearby which we found quite handy and much cheaper.
