Formentera
Formentera since the 60s has been the island to relax and enjoy the sun; fans include Chris Rea who is rumoured to have written his song On the Beach about the island. I have stayed there three times in 1994, 2006 and 2008 every time enjoying it so much I did not want to leave.
My favourite area of Formentera is the Migjorn beach, which stretches 6-8 kilometres along most of the south of the island, and last summer we stayed at the hotel Riu La Mola, at the Maryland end of the beach. Most mornings I walked along the beach and swam in the shallow waters before breakfast, as the sun broke through the early morning mists. Later the wife and I wandered along the wooden walkways designed to protect the dunes to various spots on the beach for an active day of sunbathing, swimming, and visiting the nearby beach bars. After dinner, we watched wonderful red sunsets as the sun set over the trees in in the distance. The island just has a magic that casts a spell over you.
Naturism is wide spread on most of the beaches, apart from directly in front of hotels, naturists mix with other sunbathers without any problems. Some areas have more naturists in groups but nude bodies are so common that passers by do not give them a second glance. This is truly an island of co-existence.
The northern part of the island past La Savina and Es Pujols is made up of the Illetes and Llevant beaches along a narrow spit of land. Although requiring both transport (bus or car) and a long walk, these beaches are very popular with naturists with the shallow blue waters on one side of spit and rougher waves on the other.
We travelled with Thomson to Riu La Mola, preferring it to the Club Formentera Playa, further along the Migjorn beach, where we stayed in 2006 again with Thomson/Portland. Other hotels are available and apartments can be rented from Astbury Formentera.
Well I cannot decide whether I like Fuerteventura or Formentera best so I guess I will just have to keep going to both until I decide!!!
Fuerteventura has the advantage of winter sun.
For me summer is France and canal boating.

Hi all,
we prefer formentera because it is much less windy and you can get to most places by bike- Lanzerote this year!

Went to Formentera back in '84, loved the place; much less windy than Fuerteventura. It's good to know that Thomson is going there again, they did stop for a while.
This photo was taken in Formentera. We used to go to Talaya bungalows but it got to expensive.
