Have voted against de-designation and commented:

While naturism will not be illegal on the de-designated beach, there are currently very few beaches where the more timid naturists can feel safe from official harassment.
I feel that a more equitable approach would be to reword the signage to make it clear that the designated beach is open to all and that nudity is not compulsory.

Note: Wording may be slightly different as I forgot to take a copy of my comment before pressing the send button.

I have since been told that this beach was originally designated as a condition imposed by the Home Office when the council applied for a bye-law banning nudity along the whole of its coastline.
It would be an interesting legal/moral question as to whether withdrawing compliance with a Home Office condition would invalidate the by-law.
That would be a fascinating side-effect.  

(P.S. I know that legal and moral are far from identical)

I'd bet London to a brick they'll try to get away with this. We all know most naturist are kind of ordinary people. (we're special really) who are not prone to demos etc. The "timid" ones will not want hassel. Who'd risk prosecution when maybe your job would be at stake. The council will say times have changed and yes I suspect they would get away with it legally. Who'd spend the money to challenge it?   >:(

John you are quite right about all this. A moral question, naw the council will not care, it's a legal answer they'll go for.

Lets hope though that there is sufficient representation before it become fait accompli

Please go to the Waveney Council site and vote to keep our beach -- on there site they show the beach at low tide in summer & high tide in winter , whos cheating , this beach has allways been clothes optional and has been used by naturists and textiles with no trouble , the site is -----

NATURISTS EXPRESS DISAPPOINTMENT AT COUNCIL DECISION
27 April 2009

British Naturism (BN) have expressed great disappointment and surprise at
the decision by Waveney District Council to "de-designate" the naturist
beach at Corton, Lowestoft from 1 November 2009. BN had presented strong
arguments for the designation to continue.

Corton naturist beach was one of the first official naturist beaches in the
UK and has been used for nearly 30 years.

Allan Kidney, BN's Eastern Region Representative said:
From the limited information in the Waveney District Council's News release
today we are of the view that the decision making process and the
consultation were seriously flawed. The figures from the "consultation" have
been used as a referendum of the local people who chose to respond and the
arguments and views of others have counted for very little. Beaches are of
national importance.

We are pleased that Waveney District Council will try to find an
alternative. It is essential that one be found before the present site is
de-designated to ensure continuity of naturist use in the area. We will of
course work with Waveney District Council in finding an alternative
location.

Not quite true  :-/

It seems that the de-designation is associated with the adoption of some model beach bye-laws for the whole of the beach area controlled by Waveney District Council.
This means that the existing bye-laws forbidding nudity on beaches within Waveney District are now repealed so that in theory naturism may now be practiced on any of these beaches.  ::)

I tried clicking on the 'Consultation address, it got me through to the Waveney Council Website and also gave a message ' ERROR -CONSULTATION . htm  NOT AVAILABLE.

Perhaps they have switched it off!

Will try later and see if the supposed consulation is available.

Yesterday Radio Norfolk made less than helpful comments, at one point when Corton was being discussed, one of the presenters made the comment - He supposed the 'Nudists' could go to Holkham Beach. This was considered rather unhelpful and showed a narrow view which some times occurs on this Radio Station.

British Naturism is going to have a beach day at Corton on 9th August.
