We're off to Weymouth on the 18th Sept and would like some info on beaches in the area.
Has anyone been to Durdle Door ?
Can anyone recommend any other c/o beaches close to Weymouth..
We might even drive to Studland if the weather looks sunny. 🙂
Thanks
They're out there....
Ringstead Bay is the nearest naturist beach to Weymouth (see the CO tab on the header strip). We've been to Durdle door and found it to be infested with gawpers - but that was in the high season. Studland is best if you don't mind the drive.
twas a long time ago but i think durdle door is at the bottom of a steep cliff.. quite a climb back up ro the car park. also used ringstead years ago.
also theres the expanse of chesil beach running towards bridport... its usually relitavly easy to find a bit with nobody else closeby ,not an official beach but if nobody's arround who cares
Bear in mind the wind direction too at this time of year! Ringstead faces SW, Studland NE, Durdle Door due South.
If the weather's not looking good, it's a lovely walk along the Studland shoreline at any time of year, and you're more likely to find other die-hard naturists there.
Ringstead is only five miles from Weymouth, but a half mile hike along the shingle. Worth a visit, though.
Durdle Door - yes a bit of a climb, also shingle.
Favourite bit of beach for me was Worbarrow, although haven't been there for years. It's in the Lulworth Army Ranges, park at Tyneham village and 20 mins walk to the beach. Head west along the beach until you get to the rocks, guaranteed peace and quiet!
Studland is much better - as long as you dont mind the incessant wanderers on the dune skyline.
Even if you get right back close to the cliffs at Durdle Door you will get gawpers hanging over at a viewing spot which unfortunately has a bench on it and is the best place to see down onto the beach. But if you dont mind gawpers with pinnochios (Nosey binocularists) or constant shouting go for it. I wont bother again.
Not a great place to sunbathe naked, due to the low cliffs and potential for people to overlook, but a great beach nonetheless and a great skinny-dipping location. In Autumn/Winter, you can practically have the beach all to yourself. And there are parts of the beach that aren't overlooked, like the middle section where the cliff comes out quite a long way. This is where I went skinny-dipping, and nobody can see you from there. It's also such a great height, that even if anybody can see you, they can't see much!
Here's a photo I took in January this year, highlighting just how deserted the place is. Ideal for skinny-dippers or those looking for a secluded photography spot.
Nice photo Simon. It does look lovely but if I'm going all the way to Dorset, I'd much sooner go to Studland.

I have sunbathed naked at Durdle Door with no issues. The walk back to the car park is a bit of a 'mare, but a pit stop at the ice cream 'tractor' provides a welcome break. I have used both stair bottom left & right and not had to walk too far in either direction to get a quiet place. There will be another time as I do not appreciate the meerkats associated with Studland dunes.
