I found a secluded spot on the River Severn near Shrewsbury. There's a little shingle 'beach' and the water is very clear. Bushes and trees all along the bank, with nothing but farmland around, so very secluded.  Have swum there around 50 - 60 times, and the only other people I've seen have been those I invited with me.

I live not far from Shrewsbury and you didn'y invite me 🙁 lol

On a serious note if you are ever going again (when it's a little warmer) would you let me know if it's possible to go also,

Saw that this place is used for wild swimming (with wet suits) on The Dales TV series. What about seeing if we could do a skinny dip/picnic next summer?

I have swam many times in the river Trent near Derby at a place called swarkestone and by the John Thompson public house. You may get seen, as I have once, but on hot summers days its worth it. Not that we have had many of them in past years.

there is a local river (Sirhowy) where I have found a few places for a dip. My favourite site is near Crosskeys in Gwent, and is where my profile photo was taken.

Wish there were somewhere local to me to skinny dip  🙁

I don't know exactly where in County Durham you are but I have skinny dipped in the Derwent water Reservoir at the northern end of the county and in the river just south of Lanchester.

Have a look at a map; there are plenty of possible spots and on a warm day a reasonable distance from car parks (and houses  schools etc) it is very unlikely that anyone would have a real problem with you skinny dipping.

Bit far for me. Nearly a 35 mile drive, looks secluded enough to enjoy a clothes free swim though. Might have to have a scout around the coast and look for somewhere suitable.

The far end of Lake Vyrnwy on Christmas morning with the water at 6 degrees, I would call that exhilarating.

You are not supposed to actually swim there, but there is nothing that says you cannot take your clothes off and splash about in the water.

At that time in the morning just after dawn, and at that time of the year I could be certain I was not going to be disturbed.

Lots of places abroad in summer, just not the UK, too cold for us!

I know this location but I'm not sure if I'd have the guts to try it especially as there are several lodges next to the pub.

To be absolutely honest, I've never tried skinny dipping. The closest I ever came to trying it was once with a friend when we were tempted to dip in someone's large paddling pool. We were thwarted by a lack of water.

In the late 80s my cousin and I had a boat on the river Medway at East Farliegh near Maidstone in kent, we used to work on the boat at weekends and sleep on it on the saturday night so we could go to the pub just up the hill.

We also met a couple of lads who also had a boat, you had to pass through a small camp site to get to where our boats were mored, one Saturday, the four of us were in the pub and this Dutch girl started chatting to us, it turned out that she was staying in a tent on the camp site, so after the pub we went back to our friends boat and she came with us.

We were all sitting on the riverbank at about 1am when all of a sudden we looked round and there was a bare bum staring at us in the face, she had stripped naked then turned around and seen the amazment on our faces, "oh we do this all the time in Holland, it's natural, come and join me" then preseeded to jump in the river.

Our two friends and I stripped off and jumped in, my cousin sat on the river bank with his feet resting on thier boat and no matter how much we tried to persuade him to join us he refused, we were swimming in the river when all off a sudden we heard a few swear words and a large splash, the boat had moved slightly and he had fallen into the river fully clothed, we couldn't swim for laughing.

we got out and just sat to dry off, he got out and still wouldn't undress so sat shivering in wet clothes, we sat naked on the boat with this Dutch girl chatting for ages while he just shivered, I've nevr seen anything so funny but also pathetic at the same time, who in thier right mind wouldn't get out of wet clothes, I'm not sure who he was shy in front of, us, her or all of us.

About 2-30 she went to her tent and us to our boats and it was a great night, it just shows how more relaxed the rest of Europe is to us Brits.

A favourite site is the Taff Fawr in Merthyr Tydfil at Grid ref SO 034 074 is a pipe bridge just downstream  there is a deep secluded pool where you can swim or just lounge on the nearby rocks.
