any one know of a naturist walking group around york
You could always start one! I'm up for it 🙂
so where should we go first then
That's the question: I haven't done any naked walks around here so don't know any suitable locations unfortunately.
will put map ref in shout box next time ime going for walk but usually only know a few hours before

That sounds like it's time to get the maps out and start looking, then put your boots on and go to see whether the likely spots live up to your expectations. Unfortunately there is no option apart from visiting to finally establish whether a spot is suitable for you to walk naked; after all, different people have varying levels of comfort at the perceived risk of being seen.
For maps, a good place to start you planning is wheresthepath. This displays an OS map next to a satellite image and the cursor on one tracks the other allowing you to check both map and aerial picture together. Very useful, but be aware that it is a free site and only has a limited daily OS map download quota so planning is generally better done in the morning.
Alternatively the OSGetAMap service can produce custom area maps on-line. The full service is chargeable (£30 PA IIRC) but the freebie is OK although the site is pretty slow and resource hungry.
Have fun,
Ian.
It's never too late to have a happy childhood.
Thanks Milfmog.
good link to the wheresthepath site...plenty of places to cycle and explore!!
Google Earth is useful too. You'll be able to where you'll be going and with "street view" see what the roads, and parking places, look like before you even take a step out. The routes from "Where's my path" can be exported onto Google Earth - see how underneath. It's well worth using Gavin Brock's OS overlay of 50,000 scale OS maps onto Google Earth. A link may be found here Using the tilt and other controls you can then see your route on the map against the topography of the land. (The maps can be made transparent) All this for free!
If you want some more detailed 25,000 scale maps have a look at Bing Live maps. On the top left hand corner of the map look under "road" for different map styles. See here
Good luck but as Ian says, you have to get those maps out and work out suitable places for your own comfort level.
