A LANDMARK NAKED WALK!
Exceat - Friston Forest - Deep Dean - The Long Man - Alfriston - Cuckmere Valley - Exceat. 11:30am to 7:00pm , Thursday 29 March 2012
Richard Collins and I stripped at West Dean at the start of Friston Forest and never got dressed again until our return to Exceat, except for Alfriston village and a pint of Abbots at the George.
We encountered dozens of clothed people of all adult ages. With several we had endless long conversations, with one couple for 10 minutes at the head of spectacular Deep Dean; the remainder waved to us and greeted us as they passed, from near or afar.
We asked the Landlady at the George what she would have thought if we had walked in naked. She replied that she would have been shocked ....but she would have still served us!
There was not one look or word of disapproval on the whole trip.
100% approval of naturist walkers by all who encounter them ........I have never known of this before. Is this progress?
I would have asked them to join in photographs with us if I were not concerned that it would be rude; too forward and imposing. Was I correct? Or do you think that next time I should? ...and how should I approach the question?
I am posting in the gallery, maybe only for a short while, a 20-photo album here called "The Dean and I" if you would like to browse through. Deep Dean itself is the most breathtaking vista in East Sussex.
If I died today, I would feel that I had in some small way achieved something as a naturist. All-in-all, a day to remember!

As a complete newbie and one who is concerned about other people's reactions when out and about nude, this is very good to hear. I've yet to get up the 'courage' to be nude outside the confines of my home and this post has gone a long way to allay fears that I have of what textiles would say if we came upon each other.
Thanks for posting

I am pleased it has given you some comfort, James.
But do beware; it only takes one complaint, even out of thousands, to bring the police along. They just love bullying anyone; it's their job. It is best, if you want to stay naked in public, to make it an area which vehicles cannot easily access. It has to be said that if anyone had complained, we would have been in a different postal district before the police arrived.
Rule of thumb: people generally seem more likely to to accept naturism in the country (in nature if you like) but would object to it in their supermarket queue or anywhere else urban.
But what our experience does suggest is that those whose lascivious mindsets find the human body obscene is a minority only. maybe even negligible.

It's that one complaint that I'm concerned about !! I'll get there one day. Perhaps I'm resigned to joining a club. However, at least this would help with my inhibitions etc. LOL !!
It's such a shame - I live right next to a beach with miles and miles of woods and sand and naturism has been banned by the local council

Careful of landed clubs, James, if you are single!
They have a tendency of being rather clandestine, at the worst retirement homes for couples, and view single guys as disurbing the status quo. The Naturist Foundation is one notable exception but that is in the southeast. But even there single males may have to "wait".
Do ask around about a club's attitude before jumpig in.
Try and attend swimming events, they just want bums on seats (or is that bums in the water?). I shall try to find out for you if there is a northwest equivalent of our worthy, but southern, "Singles Outdoor Club" for country walking.

Will - I'm not single - I'm a 20 year marriage veteran !! It's just that I'm more enthusiastic about about naturism than Mrs B. Unfortunately, I think a club is a long way down the line so it looks like the back garden for us for the time being

Interesting you should say that, as being naked is not illegal per se, so I'd be surprised if the council has actually banned naturism. Whereabouts are you referring to? And see the current fuss about the Welsh beach (thread at http://www.naturist-corner.net/community/index.php?topic=7759.0) where the council wants to ban naturists but has been told it can't due to the legal situation.

As I understand it any landowner can, within reason, dictate what activities may take place on their land but their edict ends at "Newlyn High Water" and below that level they have no juristiction whatsoever.

Unfortunately, it seems that the minority may have spoiled it for the majority 🙁

That is what usually happens as soon as the powers that be turn anti-naturist.
The nuisances move in as they know the naturists will have problems if they try to report their activities.
