Hello,

I am going walking this summer as away of keeping fit combined with taking nature, wild flower photos and something to fill my time and take me away from the house.

I will not be doing nude walking, t-shirt and shorts. I have already bought a roll up water/windproof jacket, plasters for blisters and a small rucksack but I cannot decide on boots or shoes or even a pair of trainers.
I tried on a pair of boots and the first thing that came to mind was the weight, so heavy, I’m sure my little legs would be worn out from the boots not the distance I had walked.

My question what do others wear boots, shoes or trainers?  Or do you go barefoot “ouch” ;D

It demands on the terrain. If it's rough ground you may feel more secure with the ankle support that boots give. You don't necessarily  need heavy clomping leather four season boot. I have a lightweight pair of Hi-Tec boots. My friends refer to them as my slippers! I've walked all over the place in them during the summer months.

I hate trainers, I'd rather have sandals

Like everything in a naturist lifestyle ....... comfort first!

If its cold, put some clothes on.
If you are walking, wear comfortable and appropriate footwear. The interface between modern man or woman and the ground is the modern foot, and its just not up the battering it would have taken in ancient days by walking barefoot everywhere.

Whatever you decide, enjoy your walks.

hi dont dismiss naturist walking straight away go for your walks in your shorts and t shirt and if you find a quiet spot try removing them  you will never look back  on the footwear it all depends on the length of walk and terrain i go from bare foot to trainers to full walking boots  good luck

Hello all and thanks for your input.

This is going to be rough ground walking away from the hustle and bustle of the roads. My female friend has chosen trainers because she likes them but I think I am going to take the advice of Davie and look at Hi-Tec lightweight walking boots, I wonder if they have them in pink.  ;D

For me the weight of the boot is an issue.

We live in such a beautiful country and I hope to have a few photos of our walks to post.

first off ditch the shorts a wrap skirt is cooler... and easier to put on in a hurry without falling over.

when im walking its either wellies if very wet,  ordinary working lace up shoes with cotton socks, or velcro fastening sandals in the warmer months.... the sort with a strap over the toes, one over the instep and a third round the heel.  i tend to wear sandals one size larger than me shoes so theres a good half inch of sole protruding infront of my bare toes, i find this gives adequate protection fem nettles , thistles etc

Hello Ric, Ok, the wrap skirt maybe a good idea but this made me laugh

“i tend to wear sandals one size larger than me shoes so there’s a good half inch of sole protruding in-front of my bare toes, i find this gives adequate protection from nettles , thistles”

For some reason that I cannot explain the image it brought to mind was a large thistle stabbing you  ;D  ;D  ;D

Skid, thanks for that, I will have a look.

Hi

I do quite a bit of 'rough ground walking' as you describe where you plan to go. I'd definitely suggest something that supports your ankles, there are many types of walking footwear that do this, there are more and more lightweight ones to choose from now. I've got a few types of walking footwear, some I wouldn't want to wear in summer.

I'd hate to be the one that gets the blame if the weather turns out as it can do in the UK anytime of year, but I'd go prepared for warm sunny days and maybe a bit of slippery mud at least too.

The modern foot is separated from the hardy foot of our barefoot ancestors only by a few months of walking barefoot, that will toughen up the sole of your foot and teach you to tread more lightly, walking with shorter steps so that you don't come down heavily on your heel.  I have been barefoot pretty well 24/7 for the last 2 years and can walk on almost anything you normally come across.  The biggest challenges are tracks covered completely in sharp grit, and nasty cow pastures full of thistles. Other than that, I have walked a Munro (Scottish 3000ft mountain) this winter (minimal snow...) and it is a positive joy to walk on many woodland and country paths. If  I am unsure of where I am going, then I will carry minimal footwear on my ruck sack for backup, either Vibram Fivefingers or "Huarache" style sandals (www.invisibleshoe.com/).

The joy of having your feet in touch with the ground with all the different textures is only comparable to the feeling of being naked outdoors, but can be had almost any time, unlike being naked. I have always thought the sight of an otherwise naked person wearing an oversized pair of trainers or heavy walking boots quite comical.... I just couldn't do it.

Tread lightly upon the earth

Hiya

As someone who is a fairly experienced walker/hiker i can only advise that if you intend on doing some serious walking do not skimp on your foot wear. You get what you pay for i suppose but the make is not so important as having a pair that are comfortable as you wont get very far if they start to rub. Go to any of the main outdoor shops, try them on and walk around the shop. Leather boots can take longer to break in that other types.
On another note my favorite walk of all is Crib Goch in Snowdon. Absolutely awsome. Check it out, but be warned, it's not for they faint hearted. Or nudists unfortunately.

The only advice I can offer to you apart from saying that I would not even contemplate going on a long walk without boots is this.  Make sure that your boots (or whatever footwear) are thoroughly broken in befoere going any large distance.

During the snow I wore mine to get to work and kept them on all day to make sure that they were broken in.

If you are wrapped up in yourself, then you are overdressed!

I am quite open to meeting other folks at organised nude venues that are within my reach financially and socially.

Thank you all for your most welcome input, I have bought  a pair of Meindl walking boots that feel a little heavy but a much tougher boot. If I can get used to these I will wear them on all my walks and may even fit in a little nude sunbathing during a break.
Proving there’s no-one about. 🙂

Hi Eva

I did a quick search of the Meindl site. I noticed that one of the range of ladies boots is called Gomera. I guess that they may be named  after La Gomera in the Canary Islands, lots of good walking there and the bonus of some good naturist beaches to rest on after a walk. Mostly black sand though, so when its hot you might need the boots to get to the water too!

So, if they're suited to La Gomera, they'll probably be fine for the hot sunny weather you'll have on your trip!

Meindl are great boots. Very waterproof!
You have made a good choice, you will get your money's worth with these if you get out often enough.
