Hi All,

I have just looked at the CO beaches tab and lookefd at the description of beaches around Clonakilty Bay. There is a mention of Simons Cove near Ring. I was there a few months ago and found that a new house  has been built right on the Cove. Unless the owners are naturists I would not recommend using it. The east end of the Long Strand near Ownahincha is good on a warm day, with a good beach and dunes. This is quite popular with local naturists but beware of the offshore currents.

Many thanks for the info. Have you found out any more, eg. are the owners naturists?

Hi,

Further to my last mail I have done a recce of Simon's Cove this morning. See attached photos.
The cove is approached by a single track road which opens out into the cove. There is a small turning area. The views from here are spectacular and typical for this part of the Irish coast. The cove in south facing and this morning the sun was very warm, with an offshore breeze. The the left and back from the cove are two very attractive stone built cottages. One looks residential, the other look like a holiday let. There is a planning notice to build an extension ' granny flat '. I suspect this may be another potential holiday let.
Immediately to the right is a newly built stone property which looks like a private residence with two adjoining holiday lets. One of the 'lets' looks directly down into the cove, as on the second photograph.
The cove itself is a sandy  beach with weed, and is covered at high tide. It is backed by rocks which could be used for secluded sunbathing, however the beach and shore line are in totally overlooked by  the property. I did not want to approach the owner to ask their views on naturism as that may have been a bit forward from a total stranger ! However if they are sympathetic to naturism and are members of this forum perhaps they might like to clarify the situation.
I would be reluctant to use this area because of the holiday lets. Is there anyone else on the forum, in the area of Clonakilty, who has any further information?

Many thanks John,
The pics are great, I don't think I would want to live that close to such a big drop. I may develop a sleepwalking habit and forget where I was. :-/

I see there is only one other member who lives near you, maybe he might know about the inhabitants.
