I'm trying out a few places for "quick" walks that can be fitted into journeys for work.

Bentley Woods is a little bit out of the way (I should have been on the M3!) but it was moderately rewarding. I parked at the car park (off Scout's Lane, north of West Dean) and walked into deep mixed woods. Pleasant enough and there were a lot of deer, which is re-assuring because it multiplies your eyes and ears. I would need to explore the woods more but I noticed quite a lot of mountain bike tracks so I suspect that is a bit of a hazard. This is, however, supposed to be one of the largest areas of forest in the South of England.

On reflection it was a lot of effort to get there so probably not a walk I would repeat. If you are nearby, I would recommend it. There are supposed to be Purple Emperor butterflies in the spring.
