Well I was at Theddlethorpe yesterday in the clear blue of Lincolnshire and had a fab time all alone on the huge beach. The only person to come anywhere near was a dog walker and I just moved away until she had gone. It was a most therapeutic day as I left there totally relaxed. Although I am listed as being in North Yorkshire I shall soon be moving back to good old Lincolnshire before Christmas so I can't wait for next summer.
Great to read of a member enjoying a UK beach amongst all this vile weather.
Been looking on Flickr & Geograph at this beach, what an amazing stretch of coast - big sand & decent dunes, glad I checked it out. Must try Google Earth.
Is this the beach near Sutton on Sea? If so this was the first naturist beach I went on back in 1983 age 14. My dad and late mum found it by accident when looking for bombing ranges. I was that embarrased I even put a towel around me to put my trunks on (my mum and dad were not and never were naturists). But what I remember of it, it was miles of sand and looked a lovely beach
Yes - it's just 5m north of Sutton-on-Sea. We used to regularly go a little north on a day out from S-on-S to Saltfleet, where we used to pick up discarded shells from the ranges. Not to be recommended!
Saltfleetby-Theddlethorpe is the National Nature Reserve - dunes and slacks behind the beach. North of Saltfleet is Donna Nook, where the seals breed. There's a lot of sand in between, but I have only ever visited with family, walking and sometimes swimming. The latter we more often did on S-on-S or Huttoft, but never au naturel.
Tread lightly upon the earth
I remember reading in the local paper at the time that the local council were trying to stop naturism taking place on this beach. Looks as if that failed which is a good thing.
Yes, fortunately the local council did fail but as with all non official beaches it is best to be really sensible. It all started with a horse walker who used to pester the life out of anyone using the beach. She eventually pestered the local Police so much that she herself ended up with a warning. Now there are a few naturists still use the beach during the summer when it is at its best. Absolutely miles of dunes and beach. It is exquisite in the summer but watch out for lots of aircraft noise as it is a military range.
when we went back in the mid 80's there were about 3 familys on there and no one else for miles
I started using the beach around 1987 and it was always heaving on nice summers days. I think it reached its peak around 1994 and then we had all of the trouble with the horse walker and things kind of fizzled out a bit. It would be so nice to get it going again. For those who don't know, head for Churchill Lane car park just north of Theddlethorpe. It goes towards the dunes but then opens into a car park. It is such a beautiful spot for sunbathing as there are miles of beach.
The beach is that big its hard to think someone would moad about it as you can just take another route on the beach it's that big
The female horse walker complained to the Police so many times over the years she eventually got a warning from them about wasting their time. It used to be so nice sunbathing on the beach at the edge of the dunes. I spent so many hours there back in the early nineties. I'd love to see more people using the place again.
Although I wasn't of an age to notice it, there didn't seem to be anyone wandering around like a Studland either
I've just spent a very lovely couple of days on Theddlethorpe beach in the far east! (of Lincolnshire)
I Spent all my time naked, from the moment I reached the beach, after walking from the car park at the end of Churchill lane. The beach is huge and you can be a respectable distance from anyone if wandering around.
I met and chatted to six other naturists over the two days and glad to say they were genuine and not looking for 'other pleasures' (as, I was told was common on one of the beaches a little further down the coast.) They tend to settle in the area behind near where the rusty old tank carcase lies. Most of the other occupants of the beach were mainly dog walkers. On my second day, I walked from the car park and as I reached the beach, there were to elderly ladies stood talking, with about ten dogs between them. I was greeted by two of them, which sparked a conversation. (about dogs) One of the ladies spotted an object in the distance and wondered what it was. I could see it was a large windbreak. The other lady said, "It's probably the nudists!" (in a very disapproving tone)
I just said, "Oh don't worry about them. Once you've seen one, you've seen them all!"
to which she replied, "I'd rather not thank you!"
It made me smile a little when I left them and when a good distance away, I stripped off and headed towards the sea.
The sea was quite a way out but what a pleasant walk! and followed by a skinny dip or three! The water was not particularly cold, as the beach has a very shallow incline and is never deep, except where there are channels cut by the flow of water, which can catch you out when walking through the water if you happen to be in the wrong place!
All in all, It was a very pleasant experience and highly recommended to any Lincolnshire naturist and of course those visiting from further afield.
'A nudist resort is simply a place where men and women meet and air their differences'."
Can anyone advise the status of Theddlethorpe Beach ?. Me and my wife have spent many happy hours walking and sunbathing at this beach; about ten years ago , before her parents moved in land. We have heard that the Police have been called on many occasion recently as the council have deemed this a non Naturist beach. Would love to visit again next year , but are unsure now ? If anyone can advise please ? TIA
According to the college of policing guidance note there is no such designation on public beaches and even local bye laws do not apply to simple nudity. So it is very unlikely that you would be charged as there is no offence to charge you with if you are simply going about your normal business naked. As with all things though you never know what someone might say about you when reporting to the police. If you want to be naked in public places as I am regularly, this is a risk no matter how small you have to be prepared for if it happens. It is a good idea to to be as conversant with the law as possible and have a copy of the CPS guidance and the college of policing guidance to be able to show if anyone challenges you.
