Me and the girlfriend are off on our first vacation this July and she has said she would try the naturist side of things, but she is new to the idea. We have booked some accommodation in El Cotillo and checking it out on Google Earth it looks like its just to the north of the main area. I have done a little research and looked at some useful posts on here but has anybody got any recent experience of the place and what we can expect and where it is /is not OK to be nude around this area?  It's my firs proper naturist holiday, although I have happily stripped off on different beaches in Europe, Menorca being my favourite.

Being her first time I didn't want her to feel uncomfortable, but I had the 'in for a penny, in for a pound' approach on my first time and never looked back, but then everyone is different so any advice from the ladies on here about what to expect also most welcome.

I have also read it is very windy, is this a major issue or is it manageable with a wind break?

Many thanks

If you are willing to name the accommodation I can give you some more detailed suggestions.

As far as windbreaks are concerned there are plenty of sheltered spots behind the rocks and many stone circles or "Corrales"

In any case the apartments we have rented had beach brollies, windbreaks and beach tents available, either provided by the owner or left there by previous holidaymakers.
Don't waste your luggage allowance on them, they are cheap enough on the island if you find the need.
On some days the wind can make the beach virtually uninhabitable, but I have only experienced this on two days in ten years of visiting the area. If you get a day like this I suggest a bus trip into Corralejo.

On the subject of your girlfriend's first time on a C-O beach, I would suggest that she brings two-piece swimsuits and is allowed to wear as much or as little of them as she feels comfortable with. This is what my wife did on her first naturist beach holiday and she only wore the bottoms for part of the first day on the beach.
Although ALL the lagoons to the north of el cotillo are clothes optional the proportion of naturists increases as you go further north. Quite often I have walked down naked for a swim at the first lagoon and been the only nude but several of the other people on the beach will have stripped off by the time I left the water.

As far as nude friendliness of the area is concerned this is a selection of the videos I have made while holidaying on Fuerteventura. Most are in and around El Cotillo.

John, many thanks for the detail. I don't actually know the name of the apparent block but I do know its location which is just a little south of the Marivella Apts you have mentioned.

I have attached a Google Earth file of the likely apartment blocks in El Cotillo.
For Cotillo Lagos and Cotillo Sunset you will almost certainly need a towel round you to go from the apartment to the beach but if you are in one of the beach end apartments of El Balcon you can probably do without - I have usually walked naked from the apartment to the beach when i stayed there.
For all the other blocks I have marked you will need to dress, especially from the Cotillo Beach Hotel.

Edited to add;
I have regularly walked naked to the beach from the apartments between Maravilla and Cotillo sunset as may be seen in this video.

Wow!  Superb information thanks. I think it's the El Balcon, but not beach side as its described as a 'short walk' to the beach!

Which way from there is the best clothes free areas? And how come you can get away without a towel if I was on the beach side of El Balcon but not Lagos or Sunset?

Cheers

At the beach end of El Balcon you are completely open  to the beach whereas the other apartment complexes are more enclosed, giving them a different ambience.

Edited to add:
Can I suggest the Azzuro restaurant opposite the beach bar for your first evening meal - far from the cheapest in the village but an excellent start to your holiday.
