The wife (Teresa) and I have just returned from a weeks holiday in Bol on the island of Brac, pronounced Brach. We stayed in a hotel close to the seafront, about five minutes away from the Zlatini Rat beach, which stretches into the sea, and can be used for sunbathing on both west and eastern sides.
As you walk from the tip of the 'Rat' towards the promenade on the west side, people can be seen soaking up the sun naked mingling with the textiles. As you walk further round, the beach turns into a series of coves where you can get shelter from both sun and wind, whilst still soaking up the sun, this part is predominently naked.
Entry to the sea is easy as the beach is mainly shingles close to the waters edge, the water is crystal clear and perfect for bathing. There are showers, toilets and refreshments within a hundred yards, so all in all a great place to enjoy a spot of naturism.

That brings back nice memories, we went on a day trip from Hvar back in 2003. I remember Bol as a typical little red roofed Croatian town snaking around the harbour and a lovely walk to the beach along the front.

How was the weather while you were there? This next week looks rather rugged in Croatia with quite a bit of rain but I hope it'll improve for next month. And how busy was it? May is a bit before the season so it should have been very peaceful in the restaurants etc.

It really is wonderfully relaxed over there and so easy to be able to enjoy naturism, it is treated very matter of factly, that you can strip off on one of the most famous beaches in Croatia. I remember we had about 3 to 4 hours to enjoy the beach. As everywhere else, the swimming was superb as you say.

the weather was mainly sunny around 21 to 23 degrees, but there was a strong wind most days. This was not a problem on the mainly naturist part of the beach as there were plenty of coves to shelter from the wind. The sea was cold initially, but once immersed it was incredibly refreshing, and once out of the water you could dry off without using a towel. This was my first experience of being naked with partially clothed people either sunbathing or walking past, but it was all so relaxed it was great. Why can't it be so in this country.
It was very quiet while we were there, and the restaurant owners were very glad of our business.
Your memories of Bol are very good and exactly as I would describe the place, not forgetting the 'Brac stone'.

Brac stone..as used in the White House. May can be very hit and miss on weather so am pleased you had sun. The bonus of going when it's quieter as we do in June, is that the locals and the waiters have the time to chat, as later on in July/Aug apparently it's all very stressful. Though in Hvar last year, it got progressively very busy.

No, I don't know why it can't be so here either. If it was your first time in Croatia, I don't think it'll be your last!

We have just returned from 2 weeks at Funtana, on the Istrian peninsula, the weather was very mixed with a fair amount of rain and a lot of wind, but when the sun shone it was glorious. We were earlier this year, it was our 4th year in Croatia and our first time in Istria, as we normally head a bit further south to Cres island or Pasman. I would agree that June is a good time to visit, before it gets really busy. The opinion that we got from regular visitors on the site where we stayed, was that the weather this year was unusually unsettled. Croatia for a naturist vacation can be highly recommended.

That was very unfortunate for you. Hate to have to say, that it was only the first day of our 2 week trip (returned yesterday) that was 'off' then it was progressively more and more glorious with 85-90 temps. Not before time, as some of the locals muttering in their cups as they are prone to do that 'summer iz late thees year.'

I hope you do return to explore more of Istria but as I will report elsewhere, it, especially Rovinj is just getting more and more crowded as the month goes on, I actually now prefer the islands to the mainland, not least because the people are more genuinely interested in you. Rab was a dream.
