Two days of rain out of a fortnight there - surely, that's not too bad, I'd be tempted to say "only two day". You should be where I live in France, we hardly had one day without rain in June. Generally, June in France this year was lousy, after a cold, miserable, rainy May and a Winter that seemed to drag on and on and never to come to an end.  >:(
The French Languedoc coast is windy, very windy. Many parts of the Med coast are (the Venetian coast is, the Aegean sea is, etc.), but that stretch of coast is particularly so. The most windy naturist resort on the French med coast is Port-Leucate - not that i'm advising you to try it! The code is "ideal for windsurfing".  :-
As for the midges, I could not agree more. We were there in late August one year, and as soon as the sun came down we had to stay inside our camper, with all blinds drawn. It had been suggested that the time of year was wrong; but your experience in June shows that this has nothing to do with the season, it's all-the-year-round midges apparently.
And yet I loved the walk through the marshy nature reserve to the beach, and the long, wide beach...
