Went to Studland on Thursday and Friday last week (1st and 2nd August) with Mrs M. Walking across the dunes from the footpath we were amazed at the amount of litter people had left behind, from banana skins and orange peel (ok bio degradable eventually) to water bottles, drinks cans, cigarette butts and shall we say 'items of a personal nature' (to be blunt condoms and their associated wrappers and lube sachets).
We remember when this beach used to be beyond reproach regarding litter, but now?
Come on National Trust, you own the place (and as we are members of many years consider that we 'employ' you).
Having spoken to some of the yellow shirted wardens they are aware of the problem but management apparently is not interested.
Also whilst having this conversation we raised the question of dogs on the prohibited section of the beach (not allowed between 1st June and 31st September if we remember correctly) and received the reply to the effect of it being not worth the aggro to enforce the rules.
Ok rant over.
That's such a shame, Studland beach has always been clean and tidy in all the years I've been going there. We were there a couple of weeks ago and I didn't notice a problem but we stayed on the beach and didn't go into the dunes.

We also get the same problem at the back of our local naturist beach although there are many litter bins on the beach itself.
I suppose that costs are the same reason why our beach is not patrolled, and so in spite of notices forbidding the wearing of costumes and banning of dogs many people continue to ignore them.

Studland has always been as Shiraz says when I've visited there, its a shame about the reported attitude to rubbish and dogs by the wardens.
Fairlight is the naturist beach I use most. What I've noticed is that its the non-naturists who often tend to be the worst litterers, cans, plastic, glass and still hot use-once barbecues amongst what they leave behind. Some of us regulars will ask them to take it away if we notice, often they're shamed into doing so.
...notices forbidding the wearing of costumes...
I don't think I've ever encountered a compulsory nude beach. Is that common in your part of the world?
I must confess that my first reaction to an enforced dress code ids that being compelled to be naked is no better than being compelled to dress; but that may just be me being reactionary to something I am unfamiliar with.
Have fun,
Ian.
It's never too late to have a happy childhood.
I would not consider it something to be normal in this part of the world but yes, there are notices on our beach showing a bathing costume with a red cross imposed. I myself don't worry about textiles on the beach but my wife gets really cross when on occasions there appear to be more persons wearing costumes than not. She really believes that a designated naturist beach should be just that and objects to divesting herself if others are wandering around wearing costumes and ogling.

I'm in sympathy with that Tony, it's not like textiles are short of places to go. Sorry for deviating off topic but it seems we have to tolerate textiles but if we stripped on their beaches it would be the end of the world.
As to rubbish.. I've said before on here how difficult it is for some people to grasp the fundamentals of how to use a bin.

Thanks for that Brigitte. The other thing that annoys my wife is that there are so many beautiful beaches along this coast but they have to use ours which entails a difficult and at times hair-raising drives to get down to it. So why do they need to come to this particular beach ?

I think it's probably because they want to be obnoxious or sarcastic or both.

I was at Studland on a Saturday about a month ago and the recycling and rubbish bins were overflowing to the point where people were leaving plastic bags next to the bin (even if they did have to go a metre past the blue sign). I was very impressed.
I'm sad to hear Sprite_Guy found the opposite and hope it's him that got a bad day rather than me getting a good day.
Makes me grateful of the lack of litter at Saunton although the areas I use see so few people that it would be unlikely to suffer in the way that Studland has.
As far as I can see naturists using the beach generally leave nothing, main problem on the beach being debris driven ashore by storms and the prevailing south westerly currents.
As milfmog says "I don't think I've ever encountered a compulsory nude beach."
Nor me, my first reaction to compulsory nudity similar. I'd be very happy somewhere that everyone had to be nude, but the option to be naked is better balanced for all, sometimes one of a couple or some people in a group of friends don't always want to be naked.
