I have swum a couple of times in the Wye. There's a nice little stone beach on the north bank, underneath Yat rocks, some distance from the road. I've always waited until the evening, because the river is very popular with canoeists, and most of them have normally stopped paddling by 5 or 6 o'clock. Don't leave it too late though, or the sun will have dipped below the hill.
There are footpaths on both banks, though, not to mention the lookout point high up on the cliff, peopled by birdwatchers with massive telescopes....
But it's a beautiful spot, and well worth the effort of walking in. It's about an hour's walk downstream from Lydbrook, a bit less heading upstream from Goodrich.
A couple of years ago I took my wife canoeing there for her birthday (we always try to do something together on our birthdays). I t was a glorious day and we had a short skinny dip close to Yat Rock. That was been around lunchtime and we were passed by several canoes, no one seemed the least bit bothered by our nudity. Somehow skinny dipping seems more even accepted than sunbathing naked.
Have fun,
Ian.
It's never too late to have a happy childhood.

I guess it's all about 'context'. Perception of most folk would be that in a quiet spot on a nice sunny day, skinny-dipping is OK.

That's not far from us so maybe we will have a trip down there one evening before it becomes too cold.
That's pretty local for us too. Always nice to hear of other places to go. Especially if they're close. Think we may have to give this a go 🙂 Xx
I've been skinny dipping in the Wye near Brockhampton (South of Fownhope) at a couple of locations. Park at the picnic site/car park about half a mile south west of Brockhampton church and walk down the steep track to the river. There are now two alternatives: walk upstream for about 200 yards(?) where you will see some artificial concrete platforms which hold back the stream forming something of a pool. This 'pool' protects you from the rather strong stream flowing. Be prudent: this is alongside a public footpath so early morning or late evening might be the best times. Alternatively, at the foot of the steep track walk downstream for about half a mile where a pool is formed from some riverine islands which protect you from the stream. This is not by a footpath so technically you are trespassing but no-one will bother you and there will be no walkers passing by. A good site for a carefree summer afternoon dip! Please beware of the strong stream in some locations and bear in mind that the river water is never warm! The latter site is OK for a naturist walk as soon as you have reached the river from the track.
These places seem like my cup of tea. 😊
has anyone tried Glasbury downstream of the carpark?
