We visited Pednvounder in Cornwall last year and had a great day but access to and from the beach proved to be so difficult that Mrs F70100 doesn't want to repeat it.

I gather that you can get round to Pednvounder from Porthcurno when the tide allows. Does anyone know how many hours either side of low tide access is maintained ?

I don't think it's very long and would depend on the size of the tide.
Going down is much harder than going up so perhaps you could walk round and then climb back up?

Indeed - that is the fall back plan but walk in - walk out will be better if we can do it.

It is possible to walk/wade from Porthcurno beach to Pedn Vounder but only at very low tides.  The sands in this area move with the tides and weather and I've never seen clear dry sand all the way round; you do have to wade some of the way.  It's no easy way to the beach!

I have seen people make the trip but they are pretty wet when they arrive wearing swimming costumes or wet suits.  You can't easily carry bags and clothes with you; the stuff you need if you intend returning via the coast path.

If you were to succeed the amount of time on Pedn Vounder couldn't be more than 2 hours; an hour either side of the low tide for that day.

I've been on Porthcurno when the tide turns and the incoming waters rise very quickly.  In season when the RNLI lifeguards man the beach they show great concern for anyone on the eastern side of the cove.  They move everybody back to the main part of the beach very quickly.  I think you could well get stranded part way if you weren't very careful.

Personally, I've never tried to access Pedn Vounder this way and I never would attempt to do so.

My advice is don't try it, but good luck if you do give it a go.

Thanks for that advice. We're in the area for a couple of weeks and have been looking at the tidal predictions so might have a look see before we commit to anything. We're there to enjoy ourselves after all  🙂

Theres a lovely old pub in Treen, but it a little bit expensive.
The campsite at Treen is quite good though.

Will try the pub no doubt.

Sadly the campsite is unable to accept caravans so we will be elsewhere. Would be really convenient though.
