I wrote this for BN some years ago and thought I would share it here!
We were on holiday in France in 1982, a few yards from the Pampelonne beach near St Tropez. The first day we got to the beach and turned left and it was a typical French beach, many of the ladies were topless.
The second day we turned right and after a few moments we were on the nudist section. There were a lot of poseurs, even a woman naked except for suede leg warmers and others with numerous body piercings.
One lady emerged from a wind surfer and with only black boots and gloves - I thought she had come as the five of clubs.
We soon found somewhere to sunbathe and I joined in and soon had my clothes off so I could get an all over tan and enjoy being naked. I loved it.
Someone said that the first experience they had was like being a kid in a sweet shop - how accurate they were.
After a few days, I would just wear a pair of shorts to go to the beach, as it seemed silly putting on a costume for the short walk. We had bought the children a Lilo and said to them if it was caught by the wind to just let it go.
Well the inevitable happened and the wind caught the Lilo and it started to drift out to sea. A Frenchman gave chase but every time he got near the Lilo it would get blown a few yards further away. Sighs could be heard from the spectators on the beach.
The man's wife was panicking and shouting for him to come back as he was getting further away from the coast. Eventually common sense prevailed and he returned to a small round of applause from the sunbathers.
Soon a motorboat turned up and someone grabbed the Lilo and the boat carried on and moored up a few hundred yards away, so I put my shorts back on and with my son set off to try and rescue the Lilo.
When we were parallel with the boat I decided I would wade out and ask for the return of the Lilo. So I slipped off my shorts and I managed to walk out until I was about 50 yards from the boat. I swam the rest of the way and in my best French asked for the return of the Lilo. There were four young girls aboard who seemed happy to return it and my plan was to jump on the Lilo and paddle back. Unfortunately, I was out of my depth and every time I tried to get on the Lilo it just moved away. I gave up and swam back as best I could.
Every time I tried to stand up I was still out of my depth.
When I got back to dry land I was out of breath - absolutely shattered.
My son, bless him, took the Lilo and ran back to Mum.
Problem was he also had taken my shorts. I looked round to discover I was not on a nudist beach anymore.
Horror of horrors, feeling very embarrassed I walked back; making a crab-like motion, so my front was facing the sea. When I got back to our part of the beach I was met with a very loud round of applause. I felt like the conquering hero.
As the days passed I felt more and more relaxed being naked and by the end of the holiday it seemed very natural and soon made friends with many of my fellow sun worshippers.

Thanks for sharing, it brought a smile to my face.
Great story and bought a smile to my face too !
And did the wife join in chasing the lilo.
No way someone had to guard our place!
One amusing event I remember, on that holiday, we were walking along the beach looking for somewhere to settle when my eight year old asked why has that lady got a piece of string between her legs?
I tried to shhhh him but he repeated again very loud.
Luckily I think they were French and didn't understand!

It is indeed very natural to be naked on a beach with fellow sunseekers. As you spend more time there in your natural state with like-minded people you wonder why anyone would want to wear anything on a warm day. I haven't owned any form of swimwear for many years, if I can't be nude at a beach I'll find somewhere else that I can enjoy the beach in the best and most natural way. It is the only way to be really relaxed and comfortable, and as many here know once you're used to being naked on a public beach you're likely to put in those extra yards to get to somewhere you can enjoy life the naturist way.
