WOW! What a lovely day it was today. Got 2 hours of free time on the beach today down at Birling Gap. I went a long way down as I wanted some quiet 'me' time. The beach was packed by the access steps and about 30 or so naturists on the West side.
The angle of the photo makes it look desrted though!

Birling Gap is one of my favourite places - I like to combine it with a walk from West Dean through Friston Forest before reaching the coast. It's also possible to walk there nude along the shore, east from Cuckmere Haven. But only at low tide. I'm surprised how few people venture away from the steps at Birling Gap
I agree, Birling Gap is a lovely beach, if a little narrow when the tide comes in, which is one of the reasons I think most people don't stray very far, as you can almost get cut off by the tide. Having said that it has a lovely low key, relaxed atmosphere.
been a month ago, on a saturday, and coudn't see any naturists at all. Was my first time there, and didn't know where exactly i was supose to be sunbathing naked. I walked about a mile towards west. Decided to walk back and went instead to Fairlight Glenn. I'd love to watch, if it's possible a map or picture of where exactly i was supose to be sunbathing. Thanks in advance
It isn't hard to find unless you are the first to arrive.
Once down the staircase go West about 150m and that us it. on occasion in school hold I've seen it where textiles get set up early and naturists go much further down.
Much less effort than Fairlight.

FYI
Due to the access staircase needing renovation, access to the beach is closed. The lady from Nat Trust said it should be sorted by 2nd June but may take longer. Good to check before you make a wasted journey.

I spotted this thread on Birling Gap, and thought that it might be worth me mentioning that the BN "Picnic on the Beach" there, which some people here may have heard about has been cancelled. It was going to take place on Sunday 4th August, but unfortunately no volunteers were available on that date to run it.
I hadn't heard about the issue with the staircase, but it sounds like that will be resolved fairly soon anyway.

Had a lovely afternoon in the sun at B-G today. Felt a lot hotter than the 20 degrees posted? 2 houra was enough for me! Back again tomorrow lunch time!

I think our local beaches are often hotter than what gets reported, not sure where all the temperature readings are taken, somewhere high, windy and cool I suspect. I don't visit Birling Gap often, Fairlight is where I usually go, but I've spent many days there thinking it had been hot, to hear later on that local temperatures had been about 5 C cooler than what I'd thought I'd experienced.
I think that is why I love Birling Gap because the winds tend not to effect the beach too much and the white cliffs reflect heat back onto the beach. It often means it stays warm well into the late afternoon.
