If you are ever in Stockholm during the summer months there is one naturist beach which you really should not miss. The rocky Svärdsön beach is in fact about 20 kilometers SE of central Stockholm but is fairly easy to reach by public transport or by car. If you want to get there by public transport get the Saltsjöbanan commuter train from Slussen to Solsidan and then get the bus that goes from Solsidan station to Älgö (number 408), getting off at Svärdsön. Be sure to check the bus timetable before leaving central Stockholm, otherwise you risk a long wait in Solsidan. From the Svärdsön bus stop there is a short walk down through the woods to the rocks at the water's edge. There is usually a quite a good mix of people on the beach, a lot of couples of all ages and quite a few elderly singles of both sexes who have been using the beach for years. It's a very friendly place and the views are wonderful. Take a picnic and spend the day there!

Ooh, I’m glad I scrolled down to this section and found this post!

I’ve been to Stockholm many times and now know the city and its environs quite well. It’s becoming one of my main naturist destinations these days. It’s almost perfect for me – in summer, at least – because I like both the comforts and excitement of a city and the serenity and scenery of the countryside, and in Stockholm both are within easy reach.

I’ve been to Svärdsön beach in Erstavik and have even had a picnic there! Although I don’t exactly know how to get there by public transport, Arnran’s instructions look about right to me. I was chauffer driven there by my friend and colleague from the Karolinska Institute.

From the old city (Gamla Stan) head south and turn left onto the main coast road (Stådgardsleden). Keep going straight and this turns into the Värmdövägen dual carriageway. Follow this round and you’ll end up on Värmdöleden (road 222), which is the main road east out of the city. Continue east past a place called ‘Nacka’ (easy to remember because it’s a bit like ‘Naked’ in my warped brain) and take the next slip road off. This puts you on Saltsjöbadsleden (road 228) and heading south-east. Follow this all the way, past the golf club on the right, to the end at Tippen, and then take the right-hand fork, which is Byvägen. Follow Byvägen and it will change into Skyttevägen, which wends around and takes you right passed Solsidan railway station, which Arnran mentioned. Skyttevägen then changes its name to Älgövägen. Then take the Älgövägen out of the houses and into the forest.

I could be wrong but think I got that right. It sounds complicated but it’s actually easier than it seems because the road aren’t choked with cars like they are in south-east England. Plus we had a sat nav; not that my friend needed it. I think the ‘nude’ beach is at about these co-ordinates: 59.26, 18.30 https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@59.2595766,18.3008708,14z

I just checked the bus: yes, according to google-maps its number 408, like Arnran said. It’s only about 1 km from Solsidan railway station though, so you could probably walk easily enough from there.

I’m not sure whether Svärdsön beach is an ‘official blue family sign’ nude beach, like, say, Agesta and Langholmen island, but it’s certainly clothing-optional beach by usage.  There are actually several unofficial nude beaches within easy reach of Stockholm and numerous additional places where you can strip off and nobody will take offense provided you’re sensible. However, Svärdsön beach is in many ways as good a place as any.

As Arnran said Svärdsön beach is rocky, but there is also some sand, grass, trees, water, etc., and it’s lovely. I don’t recall seeing any children there but, other than that, the people there were of all ages, including some younger than me. Most were couples (or maybe just two friends, like me?) but a few seemed to be single (maybe just temporarily?). There were also quite a lot of women there when I was – I’d say the male:female ratio was closer to 1:1 than 2:1 – and I fitted right in: almost too well, in fact, because for a moment a handsome man mistook me for his wife, but that’s another storey.
