My wife and I are holidaying in Croatia soon and I would love to persuade her to share my love of being clothes free outdoors. I've heard that there are lots of naturist sites and resorts there but that would be a bit full on. Any one know of or can recommend any less crowded free beaches which are easily accessible in Istria or possibly the island of Krk where I can introduce her gently to the joys of naturism?

This previous thread gives a rundown of your options around Porec, and if you are staying in Rovinj, Red Island (over the causeway from the hotel) has plenty of quiet areas, also the coves around the park area south of the town. Pretty much any stretch of rocks or quiet cove is fair game for the naturist, as long as you are not right in a town.

We are staying in a private villa inland, near Karojba and expect to have a day or two exploring and hopefully finding some naturist beaches. Happy to mingle with other naturists, in fact hoping to, but not ready for a full on resort if you see what I mean. Will have a look at Red Island. Am hoping this will be the "breakthrough" with my other half provided we can find somewhere quiet but not totally secluded or difficult to reach.
Red Island looks a good prospect or is it 2 islands one (Maskin?) essentially for naturists. Anyhow hope to give it a try and get my other half to release her pent up naked self.
Only Maskin over the causeway. The one you disembark on with the Hotel Istra on is a no no. We had a nose around inside one day while waiting for the boat back. Modernistic, and a bit spartan but nice pool at the back.
(Boat over used to be a nice cheap ramshackle wooden one, they upgraded to a mini catamaran that was twice the price last year).
There used to be a sign with naturism on it on Maskin but it seems to have gone with the wind now. We generally took the path going straight through to the other side, reaching the restaurant then to the left and right you will see rocks, shower and ladders into the sea. Don't hesitate if you see a flattish rock. They are not numerous. Get your towel parked quick.
You can walk all around the island naked except for the restaurant. Don't be put off by any textiles who wander over, who might have a voiced or unvoiced view that naturist areas should always be signed. Naturism has a long history on Maskin. Ignore them! Not that it has happened to us, but being as the hotel is there it is a small possibility.

Thanks again Brigitte, Maskin sounds great, love the idea of being able to walk around the island naked. This will surely open my partner's eyes to the normality of it.
