I have recently treated myself to an early Xmas/ birthday present in the shape of a Panasonic Lumix GF 6 camera.
It has a lot of gismos that I doubt I will never use, but one function is a WiFi button. When this function is on you can take control of the camera with a smart phone or tablet.Once  You have down loaded the app, you can use your tablet or phone to take control of the camera .my camera has manual zoom so that is the only function that won't work.
I can change aperture, alter white balance, set the flash, any thing that is on the display can be done remotely. It works fine over ten metres at least.( Length of our largest room) .
I think it will come into its own replacing the self timer. No more dashing back into the frame after you have pressed the shutter. Of course it may be old technology to some but I'm well impressed.

"Try to live a good life. Don't be afraid to be what you are'. some bloke in the pub.

For goodness sake! That was the fun of it.  Screams of laughter from the children as the camera flashed securing a not to be forgotten view of Dad's back, for the third time.

You can get remote 'bulb' devices from about £12 for any camera with a 'bulb' socket (I think all SLRs have one) - the one I have (no wires - its infra red) works over 30 meters and if you set your camera to auto focus and make sure your focus points are where you want to focus then you can happily have 'in focus' self pics or finally be in those couple pics.

I have a Canon SLR, bought a cheap infrared remote from eBay. Works great for taking self shots and long exposures where you don't want shake from pressing shutter with finger.
