I think some years ago there was a campaign to increase the size of the Studland beach naturist area. Did anything ever come of this and is it being pursued any more? I love the beach and often sail there, but I would love to extend it round the corner to the beginning of Shell Bay. This would give a short bit of beach for landing which is sheltered from the prevailing wind, and you wouldn't need to sail right out and around the training wall and back to the beach as you do now. I have mapped the existing beach with GPS on my phone, and plotted a possible larger area which would not impact on non-naturists to any large extent (they do have much bigger beach than us AND they keep using the naturist beach anyway). The existing footpath could be moved without any great difficulty. A plan is attached below, I hope. Is there any mileage in pursuing this?
Red is the existing area
Green the proposed enlargement
Yellow, the realigned footpath (the Heather Way)
Blue, where all the boats anchor at the moment.

NT put up posts some years ago severely curtailing the naturist area - on the supposed reason to restrict 'inappropriate behaviour' [they meant people having sex]. Those posts were repainted out black & new posts put a little further back a couple of years ago as they felt the problem had dissipated. The wardens & police still patrol though & will have words with anyone they find nude outside the defined area.
I really should have been born on a tropical island
First time I visited Studland was about 1986 , I wasn't aware of any defining posts and remember finding a secluded sandy hollow quite a way back from the beach.
I walked through the same area this February -very much overgrown now, such is the nature of vegetation progression in dune systems. I don't think there's much to be gained from extending back from the beach, but it would certainly be nice to extend the naturist area northwards towards the Poole Harbour entrance.
Going there this coming weekend
