Has anyone visited or planning to visit El Portus in 2015? We visited the other week just as day visitors and had a lovely time. My only criticism would be the lack of refreshments/cafe on or near the beach...they seem to be missing a trick there. The water was wonderful to swim in, lots of fish and nice for snorkelling

I was there as a day visitor last week with friends who live in Vera Playa and our thoughts were exactly the same as yours. It's a great spot - the beach could be a film location - but lack of beach bar/ café is a great pity. I gather it gets packed in July & August when the Spanish are on holiday

I really should have been born on a tropical island

It may amuse you to see what El Portus was like when we visited it back in 1983 - very desolate, and the pool was only a hole in the ground with no water in it. But the site looked promising.

wow beautiful...i prefer how it was in 1983...sometimes things get get too crowded in a small place! It's still lovely but that looked lovely back then. How was the vibe back then and have you visited more recently?

We've never been there again. At the time El Portus was quite recent; I am not sure exactly when it was opened, but that was some time after the death of Franco in 1975.
El Portus was then run by the French firm SOCNAT, which had opened the site, and which ran several other naturist sites in France, among which Montalivet on the Atlantic coast and HĂ©liomonde close to Paris. The site was minimal in those days - no shade, no swimming pool, no organized activities of any sort. The snack bar found it difficult to cope, and the very steep unsurfaced road to leave the site was almost impassable for caravans.
Still, we had a great time there, with visits to Murcia, to Granada and Cordoba, and to on of the fake Wild West villages where many western films were shot in those days - the kids loved that.
Many visitors were French (probably through the SOCNAT connexion), but there were also numerous Spaniards from nearby Cartagena who spent the whole of Summer in their tents or caravans and commuted to work every day, which gave a great Spanish flavour to the place.
The reason we never went threre again was that we drove there, which was 800 miles one way from our home city, Lyon, which is almost on the Eastern border of France - which makes it much further than the French Med coast of course, but also than Corsica, or than Istria in Croatia.

El Portus is our favourite naturist campsite in Spain. We have been going there for our annual nakations since 2006. We keep our caravan there and go out in the spring or autumn.
There used to be a refreshments kiosk on the beach until September 2014 but due to a dispute about the boundary between the campsite and the beach the kiosk was removed. Once the boundary has been officially demarcated and all the legal process has been completed, there will most probably be a new kiosk erected.
We will be at EP during the early part of September this year.

aaah very interesting stories from you both and yes I remember the kiosk (i went there a couple of years ago and remember it)...what a shame, Ihope they can re-instate it if the legal side of things get sorted.
Can only agree Jacques that 800 miles is a long drive in anyone's book!
