Can we have some advice on where to go in Maspalomas , in other words the dos and dont's of the various areas in the beach and dunes? There can be confusion between naturist and gay areas or perhaps I am not reading correctly.
Also in January what should the weather be like sun worship?

We both love the heat on our bones!:)
We've been fortunate enough to have a week during January in the southern Gran Canaria area for the last five years. Unfortunately, unlikely to make it in 2016. The weather has generally been pretty decent and fine for sunbathing during the day. Can get breezy down on the beach, however. And you can't guarantee there will be no rain or cloud, but I reckon it is about the best place for warmth and sunshine during MID-winter anywhere in the Canaries - it's certainly the most southerly point.
Regarding the beach - there are, to my knowledge, two naturist areas - one most easily approached by heading east from Maspolomas and the other by heading west from Playa del Ingles. Keep broadly close to the shoreline and it will be obvious when you arrive at the naturist zones.
In recent years the local police have begun to clamp down on sexual activity and even simple nudity further into the heartland of the dunes. We've watched them making regular raids in 4x4 pickups, arresting folk misbehaving in the dunes.
Whereas the naturist zones on the shore are fully authorised (and extremely popular), so no interference from the authorities.
Others may be able to provide better info. Have a good time if you decide to go.

"Been there and have the t shirt" is what best suits the description of this beach and area. I had never been in the complex area before and I hope not to return.
The beach is just a teeming mass with the regular textile day walkers.
We had gone there with the possible hope of the other half's first venture How ever the following day went to Tasartico where we had the beach to ourselves but found it was almost entirely beach stones except for the tow sandy ares that were already occupied.
Medio Almud is nice especially if you get a stone circle there was not a being nude but I would not even undress there myself!
bathing suit in sight and there were families present also with children, the other half just stripped of and soaked the sun, it is a natural environment for nudity.
What a contrast to Maspalomas.
