We were invited by friends to join them at sun club, but were too nervous to try and too new at dating each other to admit we both liked the idea.

A month later we took our first holiday in a caravan to Royan in France. 2nd night we went for long romantic walk along beach and just nose about. Walked long way and found we were on naturist beach at Grande Plage as we passed a couple naked having a stroll like us.

Plucked up courage to ask gf (now wife) if she wanted to try, could always pretend a joke if she said no. She said yes.

Went back everyday after that night to beach. That night and first walk down the path first thing in morning were full of butterflies in stomach for both us.

Never looked back or worn cossie again on a beach.

A typical initiation into naturism. 🙂

May I ask if either of you were aware of the Grande Plage naturist beach when you decided on going to Royan.

No we did take a drive out to Le Palmyre that day and saw signs for Plage Naturiste and FKK Strade so knew it was nude in some place near there.

Can't remember now if I was hoping to catch sight of something extraordinary but do remember we were just enjoying a long walk along the beach from St Palais Sur Mer. We were camped there with a caravan asociation we belonged to...on a textile site. We spent much of the holiday away from the campsite and the loose group of friends we were camping with...to go to beach...lol.

This was also pre internet so no research. The following year I bought Phil Vallack's book "Free Beaches". Then that year we went to St Jean De Monts and certainly we knew where the nude beach was and went straight there...also pre internet and textile camping but we went to a campsite we found at NEC show...on our own. The following few years we did same format...textile site recomended by friends or research in magazines, turn up and find a beach nearby from Phil's book.

Later we went to Serignan Plage and stayed at Serignan Nature through camping cheques system.

Now we just find an area we like but always near a nude beach we like or want to try. Naked campsite is an option on plus side but not essential. To be honest we are not over fussed about being naked 100% of time as shorts & Tee shirt can be tolerated in cooler times of evenings. We do go out of peak season now so it is cooler in evenings.

We always, since first time, tend to spend 1 day on beach and 1 say sightseeing and so on with maybe a couple days at start or end of holiday as extra beach days. Walking and reading are main activities on beach or people watching...we like to guess and bet on nationalitity and look for clues to prove.....carrier bags and books are main proof of national identity...lol. Just our silly game to pass the time.

Have you tried the French camping club's web site?
Click on the Union flag for the English version.
It lists every site in France including all the naturist club sites which accept visitors.
It is also available in book form from most French bookshops and stationers and we used to use this as our camping bible before the internet.
The web site is searchable by all sorts of criteria including naturism and the book always used to have a special index to the naturist sites.

Indeed John, you are correct. We have used the guide in old days when it was only paper form and nowadays we use version on web.

We still find the sites we like best are recomended by friends or people of similar outlook and way of life as us.

Funnily we found some good sites recomended by a friend of my wife at her work...we knew them (her and her hubby) for a couple of years and always wondered where they went on holiday...they were kinda vague and general then we all worked out we were both couples going to sites near naturist beaches.

Since then we always exchange news on sites and beaches we use.

Like anything it is a numbers game...sooner or later you will find somebody else you know is a naturist too...and it is not so embarassing, after all they keep quite about it at her work for the same reason my Mrs. does, they have the same prudish and priggish bosses who disapprove.
