Picking up on comments on another thread - I've noticed a very significant drop in numbers on naturist beaches over the last decade. This includes small unofficial places and even big well known ones like Studland. The lack of reliably sunny days is no doubt partly to blame but I don't think it's entirely that

In our case its a combination of four things:
- Canal boating when the weather is good enough for beach naturism
- A tendency to not want to go to a beach, textile or naturist
- Finding plenty of naturist time away from the beach
- Only having one good knee between us so walking the distance needed from the car to the beach is largely no-go.

Yes, I agree the weather has not been kind during the past couple of summers for using beaches unless one lives very close to a suitable area that can be used by a naturist, enabling a quick visit. The walking too can be a bit of a slog, especially in the rain trying to make a quick dash back to the car when things get grim.
We did manage Lincolnshire last summer, Just along the beach heading north from the Seal Sanctuary. The rest of the country had a heatwave, we had quite a cool breeze on the coast, Saw a group of ladies stripped off for a swim, carried on for a bit and did the same, well, paddled for a bit, then flew the kite.
The main difference I feel is an almost total lack of younger people [well, there are some but you notice tem because there are so few].
Do you think people are wary because its so easy to photograph someone & put it on social media?

I think people are "time poor" these days, and the thought of a long drive to a beach that may be naturist that day, and the chance that the weather will still be OK when you get there puts people off.
We are not big users of UK CO beaches, but we stopped trying to go to slapton on weekends because the car park is so small, a bit of a contradiction I suppose.

I think the Internet certainly plays a part. In the old days you'd go to somewhere like Studland because that's all you knew. Now a quick search and you can find a number of more local beaches....

My wife loves Studland, but it's a good 2+ hours each way. If the weather is good it is simpler to just to go to our club. Not as special as the beach, but easier.
The decline seems to be even more at local places though. There are 3 within a short drive from me. At 2 of them I will now be usually the only person there [they were never busy but maybe dozen or so others] - the other tends to be me, maybe a couple of others but more guys 'cruising' than sunbathing

Are numbers at your club growing though Frenchy? Posts seem to suggest that very few clubs are thriving [as it growing and getting new younger members]. A lot more people admit to having sunbathed nude abroad but its just not happening here

This is purely my opinion, but it is my belief is that club membership is falling due to the ultra conservative way a lot of them are run. The sniffy attitudes towards single males, tattoos and piercings have, I'm sure, put a lot of people off persuing membership. Times change and unfortunately a lot of clubs haven't and will slowly die out as their aging membership sadly goes the same way.
It's probably more an overall thing, beaches abroad naturist or not just seem much more appealing to visit, to me at least.

We used to go to Studland every chance we got. It takes nearly two hours for us to get there and so often it would be cloudy or windy when we got there. Having spent a lot of time on beaches abroad and absolutely love everything about them, Studland isn't as appealing as it used to be.
