We've been to lots of beaches in the south of France, but our all time favourite has to be Point du Layet, near Cavalier, Lavando, it's about half way between St Tropez and Toulon, you'll be hard pressed to find it on any web search, it's their best kept secret. It's a stunning horse shoe cove, very small, about 250 meters long, sorrounded by Cypress and Eucaliptus trees, the beach is about 50/60 meters deep, the water is the clear and you can wade out for about 30 meters, one half is public, the other is private, although there is no barrier between the two, The private one is full of loungers, 16 euro a day gets 2 beds/cussions,a table and parasol, at the end of the private bit is a famous restaurant "Chez Jo" the fish is superb, but very expensive, no need to dress for lunch, just a sarong, they serve wine and baguetts all day too, it's the locals best kept secret, the beach is packed after 10.30am, and I mean packed, shoulder to shoulder, literally! you must book for lunch, boats arrive bringing quite a few French personalities etc, just across the water is the presidents wifes's summer pad too, not many "foreigners" a hand full of German,Dutch and Italian, plus a very few brits, it you're that way you must try it.

Is this a naturist beach? Sounds a bit busy to be so, but very interesting all the same. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, very much so, it's a proper, recognised beach, just beautiful too, with toilets and car parking on the road side, we've had three 10 day holidays there ! I'll try and dig a photo out, but as you can imagine camera's are not the thing to take to this beach

If you type in Lavandou or Cavaliere in your search engine you'll get the exact location through either of them, I doubt you'll find it on the net anywhere, it's a well guarded local secret. lavandou is the main town, about 5 ks away, google earth it too, the whole area is just beautiful and full of small villages with their own beaches and hotels etc

Firewood, I think you have a camper? in Cavaliere, which is the nearest village to Layet, ( 3/4 of a mile away, just a good walk) there is a large camper park adjacent to the beach, 3 or 4 restaurants within yards, a noddy train thingy that takes you the 4 or 5 kms to Lavandou and stops off at the other vaillages en route, one of the villages is St Clair, we stayed there 3 years ago and drove the short distance to Layet each day, we often wondered who lived in the smart villa next door and was pleasently surprised when Jerry Hall sat next to us in the local restaurant, along with daughter Elizabeth, apparently its Mick Jaggers secret hideaway !
