Hello
Has anyone been to this beach?  I understand it's a good idea to go in a group as the path down can be a hotbed of thieves and vagabonds but I'd be interested to hear of anyone's experience?

It's round the back of Hout Bay, which feels like a very comfortable area. Same as anywhere in S. Africa, it's good to be cautious, but should be ok

Hi..Its isolated and at the bottom of a long ravine, so yes be cautious..Most beaches in that area carry signs warning of possible crime in the area and Sandy Bay is no different. The weekends are usually better because there are many more people about, the downside of that is the car park tends to fill up rather quickly.

Oh yes and the place is plagued with `meercats`at times. You can, if you fancy a good walk, hike round the headland from Hout Bay. A longer but shall we say more pleasant way to get there. Don`t know if yoy are aware but there is a naturist B & B in Hout Bay as well

Thank you both for the helpful comments which confirm what others have said and is really useful.

Unfortunately the front page of the B and B says they only accept couples and families, sadly this is a business trip where I'll be travelling alone so I've not been in touch with the owners.

Well I am just back from South Africa.
The advice from people on the ground was, don't go here unless you are in a group and the group I was due to go with rather fell apart at the last moment so I didn't make it.

Incidentally, the red city tour bus which passes Llandudno points the benefits of the beach on it's recorded tour in a most matter of fact way!

My apartment wasn't overlooked so I took full advantage of the only sensible way to dress when it is 33 deg outside!
