My Wife and I were driving through the New Forest on Friday 8 Dec, and we came upon Hatchets Pond. What a lovely place to spend a few hours relaxing when its warmer. My thoughts immediately turned to skinny dipping.
Does anyone have any knowledge of this large pond for nudies, is it suitable for skinny dipping, has anyone done it already?
There is a footpath which runs around the perimeter, but there may be a place thats away from the path which may be suitable. I dont even know if its deep enough. Any thoughts.

I've skinny dipped here and also in the smaller adjacent pond, both in the early morning. I wouldn't recommend either for swimming to be honest , the main pond is very shallow and marshy around the edges, apart from at the car park end . The smaller pond is less exposed but quite weedy with a very soft muddy bottom.
I swim naked all year round , mostly in the River Test at Nursling or at Hordle Cliff / Taddiford Gap near Milford on Sea (the latter is an unofficial nude beach).
I've looked at Hatchet pond too, to close to the road and over looked.
A few years back I dipped at Setley Pond in the New Forest and hopefully may have a look next week, there are a few photos on Google.

Jonny, how do you get to the Nursling nudie bit. I suppose Nursling and Hordle Cliff are unofficial areas.

I swim in the Lower Test Marshes nature reserve, usually between the footbridge and a culvert 600m downstream. You need to be confident in open water as well as knowing local tides, but it's a beautiful spot and very lush in summer.
Sounds great Jonny, Im not a strong swimmer and do not like any fast running water. Have a lovely time when you are there next.

If you're looking for somewhere to go in the New Forest, I would recommend Castle Hill between Woodgreen and Godshill. Bit of a steep descent down through woodland brings you out to the riverbank of the Avon, Rope swings & grassy clearings for picnics, can get busy with textilles during hot weather, but perfect for morning or evening dips and river current not too strong if moderately ok swimmer
