Apparently one of our favourite naturist beaches has lost all it's sand?

The stretch of beach between Winterton and Horsey (sometimes known as Somerton Holmes) was stripped of it's sand by the 'Beast from the East'  😮

Does anyone know if the sand has started to return?

I had a walk along that stretch of beach over the Easter weekend, starting from Horsey, I didn't get quite as far as Winterton before turning back, but it looked ok to me.
Unfortunately the weather was definitely not ideal for naturism that weekend and I remained very much textile!

As it's a naturist beach, I'm not surprised there are a lot of groynes visible.

God give me patience ... but I want it NOW!!My YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/steveteb/videos

haven't seen for my self this year however the mud has been uncovered before and sand has recovered so have to hope for favourable moons and tides and NO dredging along the sand banks.

Hi

My wife and I tried to find the naturist beach at Winterton yesterday but we were unable to locate it.. I checked the directions when we got some 4G oin the return walk and it says its not far past the Somerton Homes gap, we found the gap but didn't go any further. The spot we found near the gap was quite secluded so we went naked anyway, keeping an eye out just in case.

Hi Gary, there is no designated area and early descriptions gave the area as after the first rock groyne as heading north of winterton. Most of the wooden groynes have now been replaced by rock. You did the right thing by just finding a secluded spot. I have walked the whole length before.

Walked Winterton beach yesterday in glorious autumn sun, though not naked I should add! Like most of our beaches along the Norfolk coast, Winterton and horsey etc took a heck of a licking from the Beast from the East storms. I can't say that sand levels are back to normal but there's plenty if it and the dunes just further north from Somerton gap are amongst the nicest areas I've seen for nude sunbathing or a naked hike. Have seen many a skinny dipper dart across to the sea for a quick swim but never felt brave enough to take the plunge myself!

Official designated area is from groyne 47 to groyne 55. Each groyne has a number on it to help families with children! But around number 42-43 you should come across a collection of seals sunbathing, which is a bonus along your walk!

Hadn’t realised there was an ‘official’ designation here. Thought Winterton Dunes/Horsey always regarded as an unofficial naturist spot?
however, as it is one of my nearest, I will be heading there again this summer.
Don’t get too close to those sunbathing seals. They can give a nasty nip.
I’ve also heard about adders up in the dunes but never seen them on my visits.
there one thing being close to nature but when nature gets too close to me I pack my kit bag and run!

Be naked- be free

I know what you’re saying but I prefer the beach to the dunes there! But when I was there I met another naturist there that confirmed it regarding the demarcation zone! Great beach though!

We were there for a single day visit last year when we were allowed out to play. A lovely beach and a lovely walk to it from the car park. The attraction of seals bobbing about and resting on the beach was a bonus. I have a little walk along and nobody seemed to be in the least bit bothered if you were naked or textile - ideal in my opinion.

Only happy when naked

This point about Groynes 47-55 being designated is interesting. How far is that - about 1km? (Thinking 125m between groynes on average). Are there signs, bye-laws? I do know there's been traditional nude use for a long time.

It's several years since I've been there but I don't recall any signs, so I only stripped off where it was effectively deserted, and only met one other naturist. This was a warm, sunny late Saturday afternoon in August too.

Totally agree @FellsNude that if it’s deserted go for it because on one day we came all the way from 50 to 42 and no one else was around. But I did check to make sure I was “correctly attired”!!!

But having your own section of the beach to yourself and able to be at one with your surroundings is such a great experience. Nothing quite like a nice skinny dip and a lovely walk in a breeze to dry off with my wife!

The area designated is the mid point between Horsey Gap (North) and Winterton (South) so around 2 to 2.5 miles from each car park! But very much worth the walk!

Thanks for that - definitely a good walk and possibly one of the longest beach walks you can do nude in the UK - but do you know who designated it, and if or how it is signed?
