Hi - has anyone tried this site? I believe it's near to another site, La Sabliere which we went to last year and we liked the area, so wondered what people think of Le Ran du Chabrier as thought we might try it for a change. It looks like it is camping only - no chalets or static caravans, and also that it might have a bit of a 'risque' reputation.
Any comments/experience appreciated, thanks.

When we went there about 20 years ago we were not aware of its reputation and we had a good holiday.
I was certainly a bit suspicious about some things but the worst I actually witnessed was some rather erotic naked dancing on a table top.
There are actually four naturist campsites on this part of the Ceze (I can't remember all their names) but the rule of thumb is that they go downmarket as you go downstream.
Le Ran du Chabrier is certainly the scruffiest naturist site that I have ever visited and nothing I have heard since has caused me to revise this opinion.

Thanks John - great feedback. We liked La Sabliere last year but felt it was bit tired in some respects - so if Le Ran is "downstream" from that then we might give it a miss. I'll do a bit more research on the area to see what other sites there are.....and which way the river flows!

Just checked on the official list of all the camp sites in France and the four are, as you go downstream:

We have been looking at la Genese for our trip in July/August.
Any thoughts on it ?

Not stayed there but camped twice on other sites in the cluster of four but about fifteen years ago.
I had quite a long nude walk round La Genese while I was there and it looked good to me - clean, well maintained and well provided with facilities.
It was hit quite hard by winter floods a few years back but it should be back to scratch by now. I have seen nothing to the contrary.
La Genese and La Sabliere are definitely the best two of the four sites in the cluster, though.

Is La Genese as hilly as La Sabliere, or is the camp site centred around the river bank do you know ?

La Genese is pretty flat, partly stretching along the river bank.

We have never booked a camp site in France - even when we were constrained to school holidays and we were never turned away because the site was full.

We have never been turned away either but last year we turned up at Le Grande Cosse without booking, we stayed there 9 days in the end but had to move pitch 3 times, was a bit of a pain. so want to avoid that if poss.

Hmm, might try La Genese - Sabliere is nice but very hilly.

Incientally, if you keep your towels dry while crossing the Ceze you can dine in Sabliere while staying in Genese and vice versa.
